Who thought up champagne

Any holiday New Year's table in Russia doesn't do without the well-known French drink. Champagne is drunk also on other celebrations: weddings, anniversaries, etc. But the history of this light and sparkling wine is known to not everyone.

The creator of champagne the monk-Benedictine Dom Pierre Perinion who in the 17th century was an inspector of a wine cellar in abbey Otvilye is considered. In one of usual spring days of execution of the service the monk accidentally noticed that wine of a last year's harvest ferments, foams and breaks off bottles. Perinion differed in inquisitiveness and, probably, liked to experiment as he also developed the main subtleties of production of this divine drink subsequently. Treat them: drawing up bouquets, assamblirovaniye (connection of several wines) and packing of bottles cork stopper. British also apply for an honourable role of inventors of champagne. They claim that they used this wine in the 16th century, then delivered them it from the Province of Champagne – green, in flat bottles, with addition of sugar and treacle that drink began to ferment. And then the English wine makers decided to take process of champanization under control and improved a wine formula, having made to it some changes. Besides, residents of the Foggy Albion thought up the strong glass bottles burned in a coal fire chamber for the best storage of wine. By the way, Great Britain – the biggest consumer of champagne which is exported to it from France. The champanization method which is thought up by British, the French improved in 1876, having created the modern dry equipment – brut. Long time wine went for export to England. Since 1891 the Madrid contract on the international registration of trademarks which said that has the right to use the name "champagne" only the Province of Champagne was signed. This document was once again fixed in Versailles in 1919. However the American senate didn't ratify the document, having signed the peace separate treaty with Germany. After cancellation in the USA of the Prohibition, the American wine makers began sales of own champagne, thereby strongly irritating the French.
