Theory of motivation of Maslow

Theory of motivation of Maslow

Full-fledged life is a constant improvement of and the environment. It becomes possible due to property of the person all the time to be in dissatisfaction. That is, the satisfaction arises from time to time, it seems to the person that he has everything what dreamed of, but soon, his achievements seem incomplete, trifling. Then, the person goes to new swimming to get what is not enough for it for ephemeral happiness this time.

Abraham Maslow thought of this property of the personality much. After the long researches, he published article with already known pyramid of requirements. Subsequently, there was a theory of motivation of Maslow – entirely confirmed the genius eventually.

Pyramid

The theory of human motivation of Maslow was made on the basis of polls of patients of medical institutions. Maslow wanted to create criteria of motivation which would proceed especially from needs of the personality:

  1. Physiological requirements – water, food, air, sexual desire, a dream.
  2. The need for safety – moral and physical safety, sense of stability.
  3. The need for participation – love, friendship, aspiration to be a part of collective.
  4. The need for respect – self-esteem and recognition by others.
  5. Self-realization – morals, spirituality, creativity.

Realization of requirements

The theory of motivation of Maslow has hierarchical character. Needs of the person are implemented step by step – from the lowest to the highest, and the lowest is not satisfied yet, the person also does not think of the highest.

The first two requirements – congenital, they are closely connected with a self-preservation instinct. Following three – social acquired. The special status has a need for safety. After its realization (the person is confident in tomorrow, in own safety and health), there comes the time for love, friendship and participation in something to the general. However under some circumstances the need for safety will be highest than the others - it is fear of death. How to be told, ingenious – it is simple, if we reached everything, but there is a threat of life, we return to this congenital requirement again.

Need in love

Further in the theory of motivation of needs of Maslow the need in love follows. These are attachments, friendship, the aspiration to get the friend or the girlfriend. At this stage, the person especially sharply feels the loneliness, thinks of how it would be good to divide the life with someone.

And does not come to our mind to think of how we perceived the need for love, fighting against death, a disease or hunger. Then, the concept "love" caused a grin, and now, apparently, it is the only thing important.

Needs in recognition do of us careerists. The person wants to feel the omnipotence, self-sufficiency. The reputation and again as nothing else in life is extremely necessary for us. We strive for the status, attention and recognition of people around.

Reconsideration

When all four needs according to the theory of motivation of the person Maslow are met, after a while, it is possible to expect reconsideration of the vital purposes.

Suddenly it seems to an individual that everything lived idly, he is engaged at all not in what he would follow. Money is, the career and family are provided, time to think of spiritual came now. Some people give up prestigious work into such moments and go in monks, wander on the world, become artists, poets.

Maslow revealed that needs in self-realization are directly proportional to intelligence of the personality. That is, the intelligence is higher, the stronger to carry out aspiration the purpose. Besides, if primary needs (congenital) are expressed at all to the same extent, then the highest needs for everyone are individual. For this reason we divide people by criteria of the highest needs.
