Plots of antique myths deeply got into modern life. Many terms and popular expressions in Russian come from names of gods and heroes of Ancient Greece, for example, the word "panacea".
The beginning of history - Asclepius
Asclepius, god of doctoring, with very difficult destiny was one of the most esteemed gods in Hellas. Radiant Apollo, god of sunlight and the patron of arts, and the nymph Koronida, the granddaughter of the god of war and destruction Ares were his parents. The nymph preferred to Apollo the mortal man, Iskhiya, and for it was killed by Apollo's sister Artemis. When the body of the nymph was burned on a fire, Apollo took the baby Asclepius from her stomach and gave on education to a wise and kind centaur to Chiron.
Chiron repeatedly showed pedagogical talent, having brought up heroes Yason, Achilles, Dioscuri, Orpheus.
The skillful Aesculapian Chiron trained Asclepius in medical business. Apollo who was a patron of doctors, told the son secret medical knowledge. Asclepius became so great healer that won against death. Now Asclepius looks at mortal to which he so successfully helped, in the form of the Ophiuchus constellation.
Perhaps the real historical figure – the Thessaly tsar Asclepius who together with sons was involved in the Trojan war as Aesculapians became a prototype of the mythological hero. Hippocrates and Aristotle called Asclepius's descendants themselves.
In the Roman mythology to Asclepius there corresponded Aesculapius. Subsequently "doctors" began to call all doctors playfully.
Asclepius's children
Asclepius was married to Epiona, the goddess of anesthesia and anesthesia. Now by this term designate a way of the solution of any problems, not only medical.
