At a view of the night sky it is difficult to present how enormous and immense open spaces are behind flickering stars. Long since people asked themselves a question: whether the Universe is infinite or has borders? Only scientists of the future will be able to give final and definite answer, probably.
Infinity of the Universe as scientific problem
In everyday life the person most often should deal with final sizes. Therefore visually to imagine not limited infinity happens very difficult. This concept is shrouded in an aura of mystery and singularity to which awe of the Universe which borders cannot almost be defined is added.
The spatial infinity of the world belongs to the most complex and controversial scientific problems. Ancient philosophers and astronomers tried to resolve this question by means of the simplest logical constructions. For this purpose was to assume enough that it is possible to reach estimated edge of the Universe. But if at this moment to extend a hand, then the border is removed on some distance. This operation it is possible to repeat uncountable number of times that proves infinity of the Universe.
It is difficult to imagine infinity of the Universe, but it is not less difficult to imagine how confined world could look. Even those who not strongly will advance in studying cosmology in this case have a natural question: and what is abroad the Universe? However, the similar reasonings constructed on common sense and knowledge of life cannot form the strong basis for strict scientific conclusions.
Modern ideas of infinity of the Universe
Modern scientists, investigating multiple cosmological paradoxes, came to a conclusion that existence of the final Universe in principle contradicts laws of physics. The world outside the planet Earth, most likely, has no borders neither in space, nor in time. In this sense the infinity assumes that neither the amount of the substance concluded in the Universe, nor its geometrical sizes can be expressed even the largest number ("Evolution of the Universe", I.D. Novikov, 1983). Even if to take into account a hypothesis that the Universe was formed about 14 billion years ago as a result of a so-called Big Bang it quite can mean only that in those extremely remote times the world passed through the next stage of natural transformation. In general the infinite Universe never appeared during an initial push or inexplicable development of any non-material object. The assumption of the infinite Universe puts an end to a hypothesis of Divine creation of the world. In 2014 the American astronomers published results of the latest researches which confirm a hypothesis of existence of the infinite and flat Universe. With high precision the scientists measured distance between the galaxies located at distance in several billion light years from each other. It turned out that these space star clusters, enormous by the sizes, are located on the circles having constant radius. The cosmological model constructed by researchers indirectly proves that the Universe is infinite both in space, and in time.
