The way of cultivation of rabbits in holes is one of the oldest and the methods checked by time. Until, until people learned to build special cellular shelters, cultivation of rabbits in a hole was the main way of cultivation of these rodents. Now this method is used infrequently, but under some conditions it is irreplaceable.
The way of cultivation of rabbits in holes is simple, convenient and has a number of indisputable advantages. At such method it is not required to build a cage which can take very many place, care for rodents will not take away a lot of time and will not demand serious financial investments.
Preparation and arrangement of a hole
The hole can be dug only in those areas where ground waters are at sufficient distance from a surface, otherwise they will constantly flood a hole. If there is not used cellar, the hole can be not dug and equipped for cultivation of rabbits a cellar. If there is no cellar, it is necessary to choose the suitable place and to get to work on excavation of a hole. The hole has to be at least 2х2 meters and not less than 1-1.5 meters in depth. Before getting to work makes sense to think over a hole form that it was spacious and cozy to rodents and there was a convenient access for carrying out periodic works, feeding and catching of animals. The dug hole before starting its arrangement, it is the best of all to leave for some time alone that will precisely make sure that there ground waters will not arrive.
After the hole is dug and checked, it is possible to start its arrangement. For a start it is necessary to strengthen hole walls, for example, slate or any other material, such facing of walls of a hole will allow to avoid their continuous fall. Without facing the most distant wall from an entrance in which rabbits will dig minks for the posterity is left only one. The hole equipment drenazhy will be the following step, for this purpose the rack grid which is laid on the hole floor, as a rule, is used, also instead of a grid it is possible to use straw. After completion of works on the device of a drainage it is possible to start placement in a hole of feeding troughs and drinking bowls. That rabbits when feeding did not press each other and quietly ate food, feeding troughs and drinking bowls it is better to put more depending on quantity of rodents. Besides to them also there has to be a convenient access for their filling and cleaning. The top of a hole should be equipped with a roof which will interfere with hit in it of garbage and pets – dogs and cats.
Settling of rabbits and further leaving
When the hole is completely ready, it is possible to occupy in it the first residents. For cultivation of rabbits as a pit way it is necessary to choose breed of the average sizes. It is better to occupy in a hole only young individuals of rodents as adult rabbits are quite lazy, do not wish to dig independently minks for posterity and have tendency to expel young growth from the made habitable territories. After settling of rodents in a hole, except works on cleaning and feeding, it is also necessary to hold selection events. These actions imply rejecting of rabbits of individuals inappropriate to norms of cultivation. The old, sick, too aggressive and having genetic deviations rodents have to leave from a hole first of all. Besides from a hole it is necessary to remove the earth accumulating when digging minks for posterity in time and to change a drainage laying if that is used.
