Turtles have practically no visual differences therefore it is difficult to descent to distinguish a female from a male. But once you look narrowly more attentively, at once it will become clear who lives in your terrarium. There are several sexual features at individuals.
Instruction
1. Make out a tail of an animal. At males it long and thick at the basis (about an armor). At the self-check, on the contrary, a tail short and without any narrowings or thickenings. But there are also exceptions therefore you should not rely only on a tail, it is possible and to be mistaken.
2. Individuals of different floors differ in an armor form on a paunch. At females it flat, and here at males a little concave. The structure of an armor is directly connected with reproduction of turtles, by means of the hollow the males are fixed on females. If the armor was flat, then fixing would be impossible, and the male constantly would slide.
3. If you have already rather adult turtles, then pay attention to their claws. At the self-check they short or in general slightly noticeable. At males claws very long, especially it is noticeable when they are more than 5-7 years old. As turtles long-livers, at this age they can be considered rather young.
4. It is possible to notice that at males the front extremities are slightly thicker, especially in articulate parts. At females of a pad accurate, but is slightly shorter, than at their soulmates.
5. It is impossible to determine a sex of a turtle precisely by a form or the size. There are some differences which are peculiar to certain species of reptiles. For example, at marsh turtles the male differs from a female on color of eyes, it has them dark, and here at a female yellow. It is also possible to notice that at males an upper lip with a white shade. Kaymanovy turtles have males many times more females. And at Galápagos very strong dent on a paunch at males and exclusively flat armor at females.
6. If you cannot define who is who, bear the favourites to the veterinarian. The doctor without special work will be able to define a sex of turtles. As a last resort, buy the book about turtles and try to define by pictures and the description to them.
