There are two main directions in cultivation of quails: egg and meat. According to the purposes of cultivation of these birds, it is necessary to get those which more correspond to an objective. For cultivation "on egg" get Japanese, Estonian, tuxedos. For receiving meat – Pharaohs.

1. All breeds of quails can be divided into two main categories: meat and egg and meat. Therefore it is necessary to choose birds depending on goals. If preferably egg direction, makes sense to pay attention to the Japanese quails. They surpass many other lines of these birds in yaytsenoskost level.
2. The Japanese quails as the independent line were brought by selectors from the country of the same name. Color of a feather at these birds differs depending on a floor. At males of a breast brown, at the self-check – light gray. The sex of a chicken can be distinguished at 3-week age. The Yaytsenoskost makes 250-300 (and more) eggs in a year. 3. If in quails attracts not only a yaytsenoskost, but also decorative qualities, it is worth parting smokingovy or Manchurian golden. The first are especially beautiful: dark back, and breast light. The Yaytsenoskost of these birds too quite high – to 280 in a year. So perfectly representatives of the Estonian breed cope with this task: 275-285 eggs a year. But these quails differ in special gluttony therefore the expense of forages at their contents is a little higher, than for representatives of other breeds.

These birds possess gray plumage and look much more attractively, than quails of other breeds. On a yaytsenoskost they almost correspond to Japanese. 5. If in a priority the meat direction – the best breed, than the Pharaoh not to find. These are the largest birds: the weight of adult males fluctuates in the range of 165-265 g, and the self-check – 180-310 g. To 5 weeks age they gain already very essential weight: 140-150 g. The Pharaoh – in every respect favorable breed as eggs they give too much: up to 220 pieces a year. Despite their smaller quantity, than at birds of yaytsenosky breeds, at Pharaohs they are much larger: weighing 12-18 g.
6. These quails differ in character and type of behavior in capriciousness and are more whimsical to quality of a forage and conditions of keeping. There is such line of these birds removed in the USA as the Pharaoh broiler. These quails are not much larger, but quickly gain weight. Appearance of birds not too attractive because of "wild" coloring of plumage. Besides Pharaohs, on meat it is possible to grow up smokingovy quails.
