How to store cowberry

Cowberry as a source of vitamins, useful organic acids and minerals is known to mankind long ago. Its health giving qualities are mentioned by ancient Greeks and Romans. The Russian herbalists of the 17th century I recommend use of berries and leaves of cowberry at diseases of eyes, an urinogenital system, digestive tract and heart. Our ancestors learned to store cowberry without loss of its medical and gustatory qualities. These ways are relevant and today.

Soaked cowberry

It is the simplest and most widespread storage technique of cowberry. Touch berries, remove spoiled and also forest garbage. Wash out a baking plate the crane and shift in glass jars. Fill in with the cold filtered water, and it is even better – key, at the rate of 1 to 2 (1 part of berries, 2 parts of water). Close a polyethylene cover or tie a neck banks with cotton fabric. Don't roll up! Define on storage to the cool dark place though soaked cowberry is well stored also at the room temperature.

At long-term storage on a water surface the transparent jellylike film similar to a tea mushroom can be formed. You can get and throw out it, and you can leave, in itself it doesn't bear harm.

Approximately in a week, water in bank will become red, and berries – soft, at the same time they won't lose the properties at all. You can use water as drink at catarrhal diseases as means at a hungover syndrome and at digestion violations. If necessary just add water in bank. Berries of cowberry are ideal for preparation of desserts, stuffings for pies as a garnish component to meat dishes. Help to remove early toxicosis at future mothers.

The cowberry frozen

Touch berries and, having distributed on containers or packages, place in the freezer. If you decided to wash out cowberry before freezing, then after you wash out, scatter it between two layers of a paper towel and get wet. Or wait when berries dry. Before the use get from the freezer and let's be defrozen at the room temperature. The defrosting in the microwave or by means of hot water will lead to loss of useful substances, and, besides, berries will strongly soften and will get out of a shape. For use as a stuffing or a basis for kissel (compote, fruit drink) they will fit, and here for a garnish – no more.

Pareny cowberry

Touch berries, wash out, fill up in a pan. Close a cover and place in the oven warmed up to 160 wasps for one and a half-two hours. Then you can slightly open a door of an oven and still weary cowberry. One or one and a half hours later to switch off an oven, a door to close and leave a pan with berries before full cooling. Then to shift in banks and to close polyethylene covers.

When soaring berry strongly decrease in volume, change color from red on unattractive gray that doesn't say at all that they become less useful. Pareny cowberry can be stored the whole year even at the room temperature.

Pareny cowberry is more tasty soaked, especially at addition of honey or sugar. It can be used for preparation of compotes, kissels, jam, a stuffing for pies and also as one of ingredients to such dishes as a duck with sauerkraut or a goose with apples.

Fruit candy from cowberry

Mix the touched and washed out berries with granulated sugar in the ratio 2 to 1 and you cook at constant stirring before strong solidification. When weight finally cools down, knife it or scissors on strips, pour sugar and remove on storage in cardboard boxes or wooden boxes with openings for ventilation. The cowberry fruit candy can be used as the natural delicacy possessing besides medicinal properties, to cook compotes and kissels. The fruit candy promotes clarification of bodies of a GIT, supplies an organism with A, B, C, E vitamins and groups B.

Tinned cowberry

Wash out the touched cowberry, pour in bank 2 glasses of berries, and from above - 0.5 glasses of granulated sugar. When contents settle, add still some berries and sand. And so on until bank becomes full. Remove on storage to the dark cool place.
