The geranium is loved by many. From the first beams of the spring sun before return of October cold weather it decorates windowsills and personal plots with magnificent and colourful caps of inflorescences. Though this plant is rather unpretentious what it in many respects and has got national love for, nevertheless it needs care and leaving. The important event in life of geranium is autumn cutting.
Cutting: main data
Not all beginning flower growers know, than this action differs from nipping. In the first case the considerable part of escape (quite often there is about a third of initial length of branch), in the last – only upper part is removed.
What this procedure is necessary for? First of all for creation of attractive decorative species of plant. The geranium which is not exposed to cutting is extended up, and on growth of green part all forces and nutrients leave. Poor blossoming becomes natural result.
Also removal of part of escapes represents peculiar updating of plant which begins to lead then new life and to be pleasing to the eye of the owners. Blossoming becomes more long and abundant. And the cut-off escapes without effort can be implanted in the soil or water (it is desirable to put in it tablet of activated carbon), having received new sapling of geranium.
The procedure should be carried out regularly from first year of life of plant. At scrap it is necessary to use the disinfected knife, scalpel or edge, it will help to avoid appearance of diseases. Places of cuts process cinnamon ground or pounded coal.
Autumn cutting
During the summer the geranium, as a rule, becomes covered by numerous buds and flushes. By fall growth slows down, and the bush begins to be prepared for hibernation. Though some gardeners prefer to be engaged in forming of plant in the spring, autumn cutting is not less effective. Besides, it helps geranium to get rid of excess greens.
For achievement of desirable result it is recommended to execute the following operations procedure:
1. At first it is required to remove all dried-up inflorescences and escapes.
2. Then come turn of leaves: it is recommended to get rid of those who look unhealthy and faded without pity.
3. Now it is necessary to examine geranium, having evaluated its form and having estimated what branches of plant too long. They should be cut over sheet knot at once.
4. Long and almost naked escapes need to be removed at the basis. Very soon on the place of cut there will be new, closing unattractive emptiness in krone.
5. As for the main stalk, it is necessary to leave two of its thirds.
6. Growth of geranium, as a rule, does not stop also in the winter. The young escapes appearing on the place of cuts need to be prishchipnut accurately after the fifth leaf. It will help to create magnificent and effective bush.
To help geranium (this second name of geranium) to recover after the procedure, experienced flower growers advise within two weeks to feed up plant nitrogenous fertilizer according to the instruction to medicine. It is also necessary to remember that from December to February the plant is in dormant period and therefore you should not cut off it at this time.
