How to connect LED to the battery

The simplest LED lamp consists of LED, the resistor and the battery. In some cases also the resistor is not required. Such lamp is less effective, than more difficult, equipped with the converter, but the low price and speed of assembly pay back this shortcoming.

Instruction

1. Find voltage drop on LED depending on its color according to the following table: - red - 1.9 V; - yellow or green - 2.1 V; - blue or white - 3-4 V.

2. If color of luminescence of LED is unknown to you, quickly connect it to the lithium battery of standard size 2016, 2025 or 2032. At the same time you learn polarity of conclusions of LED, trying to connect it in both ways. At element the marking is put on the plus facing having the bigger size. The LEDs having the body (that is executed not in SMD execution), it is possible to connect to such battery without resistor. Do not short-circuit element at all.

3. If for power supply of the LED having the body you are going to use lithium element of standard size 2016, 2025 or 2032 or three manganese-zinc elements of standard size LR41 (L736, AG3) which are consistently connected the subminiature, the resistor it is possible not to use. For power supply from the same energy sources of SMD diodes the resistor about 30 Ohms is recommended. When using three elements of the AG13 (LR44) brand the same resistor should be put consistently and with case LED.

4. Sometimes in lamps of industrial production for power supply of blue or white LEDs turn on consistently two batteries 2016 without resistor. It is impossible to do so because it will result in fast wear of the diode and discharge of element.

5. At connection of LED to the energy source consisting of batteries of standard size of AA or AAA, use the resistor without fail. If the LED red, yellow or green, is required two consistently connected elements if blue or white - three.

6. The resistor originally take with a resistance of 100 Ohms. Measure current via the diode and if it is more than rated, increase resistance if less - reduce. For diodes which rated current is unknown, choose it equal 10 mA (for lighting LEDs with diameter of 3 mm), 20 mA (for lighting large diameter) and 3 mA (for SMD and any indicator).

7. Then measure voltage drop on the resistor, increase it by the consumed current, and receive the power which is allocated on it. If necessary, increase the power rating of the resistor, previously having rounded it to the next value from standard row.

8. Surely equip lamp with the switch, having added it to chain consistently.
