Forming of ficus needs to be made when the plant became too branchy and unattractive. After the correct cutting the ficus has to look as if you did not touch it at all. If decide on change of natural form of plant, you should work fairly – the ficus will persistently return to form, usual for itself.
Instruction
1. Usually cutting of ficus is made shortly before the active growth of plant which begins in the spring. As signal to start operation the emergence of escapes with young leaflets can serve. This period indicates that the plant is suitable for cutting. But if you have missed this moment, then postpone the procedure until the next season better.
2. The clean sharp tool – knife or secateurs is necessary for cutting. Do not tear off bark from trunk of plant at all and do not unscrew branch. Remember that accurate cuts will quicker drag on, and it many times over will reduce risk of hit in them various infections. Besides, they will not spoil exterior of ficus. Also it is not necessary to crash into branch or trunk from which you separate unnecessary escape too deeply. At the same time do not leave "stumps" - they can become source of infections and the ficus will look not really attractively.
3. Delete branches which intertwine with each other, growing directly in the center of tree or competing with the main trunk and also those which growth breaks tree form.
4. If your ficus has one trunk, then it will be rather easy to cope with it. But if at plant several main escapes, it is more difficult to cut off it. You can be helped by wooden bar which needs to be placed between plant trunks. Thanks to it, the ficus will get the V-shaped form natural to tree. In order that the bar has not damaged tree bark, previously envelop it soft rag.
5. Begin cutting with the weak and started branches. Sometimes several branches are crossed with each other, hampering the mutual growth. In that case cut off weaker of these branches. At the same time it is optional to delete branch completely, there is enough cutting to large branching.
6. In order that you could form independently the desirable direction of growth of branches, cut off to branching or to leaf the extended branches on the one side of tree.
7. Sometimes branches of ficus begin to curl in different directions. It can happen from the fact that the plant is far from luminous source. To avoid it, it is enough to transfer plant to more lit part of the room and once a week to overturn it around axis.
