How to part ficuses

The ficus which was once considered as sign of narrow-mindedness is quite popular among amateur flower growers today. Its big dark green leathery leaves are pleasing to the eye, but also, in own way clean air and generously oxygenate the room. The branching of ficus occurs incorrectly, i.e. is asymmetrical therefore the plant needs to be formed. For this purpose in the spring, even prior to growth, the top of tree is cut off. On the cut-off part there have to be 2-3 kidneys (2-3 leaflets). Here from this piece it is also possible to grow up one more ficus. It is possible to make it at observance of certain rules.

Instruction

1. Place the cut-off ficus top in bank with water of room temperature. Deliver to bank on well lit and warm place. For example, on windowsill of the window coming to South side. Change water in bank daily.

2. While the new ficus gives backs, prepare small pot and soil for landing. Take 2 parts of the humous earth and 1 part of bank sand, carefully mix. Fill up sand-humous mix in pot at the bottom of which the drainage from haydite or small stones (ledeshk) has to be arranged previously.

3. Put the piece of ficus which has given backs to the friable and humidified earth. Strongly it is not necessary to bury. For the purpose of painless rooting it is possible to cover plant with cap from film or can if leaves allow to make it. The perfect place for ficus at this stage – the warm and damp room.

4. To water moderately, without filling in. Times to take off film cap (or to bank) and to spryskivat plant or to accurately wipe leaves with damp sponge.

5. When it is visible that the plant has taken roots and feels in pot well (the leaves shining healthy gloss and saturated color will testify to it), the film or to bank can be removed. At first the ficus needs to be protected from direct sunshine. However gradually it is necessary to move up pot closer and closer to brightly lit place, accustoming plant to the sun (the adult ficus loves direct beams).
