Remontant raspberry wins space on our kitchen gardens more and more. It has a number of advantages unlike normal grades of raspberry. In particular, remontant raspberry is less subject to influence of diseases and wreckers and also transfers hard frosts in the winter better. Therefore it can be grown up almost everywhere.
One of the most important stages in care for remontant raspberry is its correct cutting. This plant can yield during the season two harvest at once and therefore it is considered very favorable culture. But fructification of the next year directly depends on the correct cutting of plants in the fall before winter. In this case there are two options of trimming of remontant raspberry.
If the next year it is desirable to receive two harvests of such raspberry at once - in the summer and in the fall, then it is shortened before winter, as well as normal. That is cut off the old fructifying escapes, and leave only those which will begin to yield harvest in the summer of next year. At the same time before cold weather the remained plants connect among themselves, and under them powder the soil with humus or peat. If they very high, then they can be bent and laid on the earth, and to cover from above with leaves, sawdust, ukryvny material or fir twigs. In the spring these escapes will blossom, and new will sprout for the autumn period of gathering berries.
If for the next season it is preferable to reap crop of remontant raspberry only in the fall, then in October-November all plants cut off completely, leaving root system and small sprouts. They will grow again in the spring, and it will be possible to pick fresh berries already next fall. Such landings to winter powder with sawdust or leaves.
At scrap of remontant raspberry it is also important to consider that it fructifies both on one-year, and on biannual escapes. One-year escapes which already fructified surely delete in the fall, leaving sprouts no more than 3 cm high from the earth. Such cutting will not force plants to spend too many forces for forming of escapes for replacement and growth of aftercrop.
The choice of any given option of cutting of remontant raspberry is the right of each amateur gardener separately in the fall, but all have to follow the general rules.
