1. Choose one of the tools suitable for sharpening of knives. It can be electric grinders, kitchen knife sharpeners, bars of various granularity, abrasive paper. In marching conditions such tool any stone can become firmer than metal of which the knife is made.

2. Examine knife which needs to be ground, regarding its initial sharpness and various jags on its edge. Best tool for sharpening of knife, absolutely unsuitable for use, is the electric grinder, but it is destiny of professionals. In house conditions for these purposes grinding bar is usually used, but time for sharpening of such knife it is spent much more. If only any part of knife has become blunted, then it is possible to grind only it. If one party of knife has cloves, then sharpen that part of knife where it is chamfered and there are no cloves.

3. Put grinding bar on any basis chosen by you not to spoil table-top. To they can serve cutting board, piece of linoleum, the simple newspaper. In the right hand take knife for its handle and put cloth on bar at a small angle (in the choice of corner it is possible to be guided by the angle of the previous sharpening). Holding bar with the left hand, the right hand make progress of densely pressed knife blade on bar. Amplitude of your movements has to depend on length of all edge, or on the size of stupid part of cloth of knife. It is necessary to repeat this operation on both sides of knife blade. It is the main, rough part of the sharpening of knife giving to its edge the cutting corner.

4. Having defined that knife blade in rather tolerable state, or you need to complete rough processing of stupid edge, pass to so-called "editing". For this purpose it is possible to use more delicate tool, for example fine-grained abrasive paper, or small sharpening stone (grinding bar). For editing the knife is carried out by the fast movement along bar, alternately substituting both parties of edge, or carry out by bar along edge from below and from above.

5. Apply knife edge perpendicularly to finger after sharpening. Really fine edge will improve slightly skin at the sliding movements by knife in the direction perpendicular to edge.
