Besides traditional way of cultivation of potatoes, there is also number of alternative – so-called vertical ways. According to farmers innovators, growing up potatoes vertically, it is possible to achieve incredibly rich harvest.
There is opinion that to grow up rich harvest of potatoes, it is not obligatory to dig in tubers to the earth in such a way at all as it can be done in most farms. For small sites the vertical cultivation of potatoes - in boxes or big bags will be much more productive.
It is a little theory
According to the scientific facts, potatoes are plant unique in own way as everyone its hundred-bosoms (side escape), reaching in length of two and more meters, can continuously and are rather abundant to fructify.
This discovery also became as a result basis for carrying out number of experiments on cultivation of potatoes. The essence of these experiments is approximately identical – to grow up the longest potato stalk by method of its gradual falling asleep of easy and is abundant the fertilized soil. Presently already many gardeners grow up potatoes in vertical way which, according to them, is extremely fruitful, besides very not labor-consuming. For this process the enthusiasts use any objects which are had near at hand: wooden boxes, dense economic bags, garbage bags, plastic or wooden barrels and even automobile tires.
Cultivation of potatoes in wooden box
To grow up potatoes in the vertical way, it is necessary to choose the capacity, optimum for this task. The best option in terms of practicality, convenience and simplicity of production, is the wooden box of 100х100 cm in size. Actually, full-fledged box this capacity will become already at the end of cultivation process, and at the initial stage only the wooden board (too about 100х100 cm) with four vertical guides to which in process of growth of potato stalk boards walls will fasten is required. Having attached the first level of boards walls to guides and having received thus something like small box (height of walls of 10-15 cm), it is necessary to make soil charge in capacity and, having made several deepenings (it is possible in chessboard order), to plant several potatoes. At once it is necessary to notice that soil has to be lung, with the high content of the rerotting manure and wood ashes. After landing potatoes should be filled up with soil, and from above evenly to powder with straw and it is abundant to water. After young sprouts of potatoes reach height of 15 cm, it is necessary to make mounting of the next level of boards walls and to completely powder stalks with soil. This procedure should be repeated several times until potato stalks reach in height of 120-130 cm. On reaching this height the stalks should not be filled up any more as at this stage the plant has to develop and fade completely. The crop of potatoes can be reaped after plant stalks completely dry out – in one and a half-two months. It is necessary to make dismantling of one of box walls for convenience of collecting. Important: throughout all process of growth of stalks of potatoes (and formations of tubers) the earth in box follows it is abundant to water.
