How to pollinate cucumbers

Pollination is very important stage in the course of cultivation of cucumbers. Depending on cultivation conditions this procedure can be made in two ways. In room conditions – cucumbers are pollinated in the artificial way, and on the open ground or in greenhouses - bees.

Instruction

1. Before beginning controlled pollination, find pistillate and men's flowers on plant lashes. It is very simple to make it: in the basis of pistillate flower there is small similarity of cucumber, in men's it is absent. Tear off nimbus from men's flower and light touch of rear side of palm check whether pollen pours out.

2. After that you can start pollination, in turn touching stamens pestles. Upon termination of the procedure tear off on one petal from pistillate flowers to mark that they are already pollinated. Now you need only to wait and watch plants. At successful pollination, the ovary on the impregnated flower gradually will begin to increase. If the flower is not impregnated – the ovary will turn yellow and will fall down.

3. There is one more way of manual pollination. Take soft brush and apply pollen on pistillate flower, at first touching stamens, and already then snout. In completion of pollination cover flowers with paper caps or pieces of cotton wool. You can also hang up on lash bright ribbon or the label with specified on it by grade and date of pollination. It is necessary in order that when harvesting accidentally not to break fruit. After that remove all blossomed and deflowered female flowers in this knot both two knots below and above pollinated. In several days check whether the ovary has increased and if yes, that remove insulators from flowers.

4. For pollination of the cucumbers which are grown up in the greenhouse place in it bee family. As the distillation of hothouse cucumbers begins with the end of winter, it is necessary to make it early in the spring until bees have made cleaning flight. For a start place bees in the empty warmed greenhouse for flight, and by the beginning of blossoming transfer them to plants.

5. Put beehive on support 40 cm high near greenhouse sidewall opposite to path through passage. The place surely has to be well lit in the mornings. Darken the glasses located behind beehive by means of plywood. In warm time whitewash them chalk. As soon as melliferous plants blossom, give to bees opportunity to take off from the greenhouse. Do small window in roof, and around it whitewash glasses chalk. It will help bees to be guided better.

6. When there comes warm weather, on one of external walls of the greenhouse make small round opening. Take out beehive and put it to this wall closely so that the opening coincided with notches. So bees will be able to fly to the greenhouse. Part of them will pollinate cucumbers, and the others will take off on will and to collect pollen from melliferous herbs.
