It is careful to remove strawberry for the winter – necessary occupation for each gardener who wants to receive good harvest next year. Training of the berry-picker for wintering - business simple, but for its carrying out it is necessary to know some rules and features of care for berry culture.
Preparation for wintering begins in the summer
The main condition under which strawberry will normally postpone wintering, - the healthy and strong leaves which have grown after cutting. And that they were such, it is necessary to watch all summer those leaves which accompany strawberry bush all summer period. Because in case of their diseases, rotting or defeat by wreckers all problems will pass to new leaves, and it, weak and sickly, it will be difficult to transfer cold weather and frosts.
At emergence on leaflets of brown spots, painful damages or the centers of rotting delete such leaves without regret. Thereby you revitalize escapes and will provide normal current of the forthcoming wintering.
In the summer during all stage of growth and the period of fructification feed up strawberry. At stage of growth fertilize organic chemistry (1 part of infusion of mullein on 10 parts of water) or complex mineral fertilizer (1 tablespoon of nitroammofoska on 10 l of water). Expense: under one root of 0.5 l. During budding and emergence of the first berries strawberry needs more potassium therefore use wood ashes or potash saltpeter (other names potassium nitrate, nitrate potassium). In August feed up strawberry bushes urea (30-40 g on 10 l of water), it will provide good laying and increase in flower kidneys.
After harvesting properly loosen the soil around bushes and zamulchiruyta with needles or straw. Row-spacings can be dug over superficially. Do not do it on the eve of cold weather since accidentally damaged backs will not manage to be restored, and it will badly affect stability of bush during the wintering.
Cutting of strawberry
Cutting of strawberry consists leaves from each bush at a distance. Do it usually right after harvesting, deadline – the end of August. The procedure allows to avoid rotting of leaves and distribution decayed on all berry-picker. You make cutting accurately, trying not to damage the new thin small stalks growing from the center of bush. After cutting you can feed up strawberry organic chemistry or complex mineral fertilizer (1 glass of ashes on 10 l of water or 2 tablespoons of nitroammofoska of 10 l). It will give good growth to new strong leaves and will promote laying of the flower kidneys providing future rich harvest.
After cutting of leaves check whether root necks are seen from the soil. If have noticed such, podsypta of the earth to them.
Warming of strawberry
The main heater for strawberry is snow. This best "blanket" creating heat to the berry-picker interfering its freezing and death of root system. Therefore with the first snow cover with it bushes of strawberry and increase cover with each new snowfall. If frosts have come, and there is no snow, take care of strawberry thus: gather in the forest of coniferous branches and cover with them the berry-picker. Also straw and large sawdust or shaving will fit. If not to take timely actions for warming, strawberry can die since its roots are located very close to surface, the hard frost will not regret them. Remember that such shelters as fir twigs, straw and especially sawdust are not safe for the berry-picker since they well absorb and accumulate moisture. Strawberry can rot or decay. Do not do layer of such shelter too thick and dense. If you have opportunity to happen on the seasonal dacha and in the winter, then make attempts to air the berry-picker who is under the shelter from fir twigs, straw or shaving. Having pushed under ukryvny material stick (shank from shovel), slightly raise it. Do such procedure for all berry-picker. Recently gardeners began to use heat-insulating material – agrofibre. It protects the berry-picker from accumulation in it of excessive moisture, reliably preserves against frosts and rodents and even passes sunlight. It allows to grow up strong and healthy strawberry even after the most fierce winter. You do not hurry to cover the berry-picker before the settled frosts and furthermore to the first frosts. Give to strawberry bushes the chance to become tempered, so they will much better cope with winter cold weather.
