Ivan the Terrible - one of the most famous and cruel governors of the Russian state. In spite of the fact that he lived not so much, only 54 years, he was a governor most longer in Russia - 50 years, the truth since three years nominally. 1. After in 1560 the first wife of Ivan the Terrible died, his character sharply exchanged, he began to lead extremely unhealthy life. Under numerous certificates of contemporaries he indulged in unlimited gluttony, alcoholism and debauchery. Such behavior led to the fact that by 53 years he looked as the 80-year-old old man. Health of the tsar was also affected by his paranoid suspiciousness, fear of poisoning, a constant stress.

2. In the middle of the 20th century Ivan the Terrible's remains were investigated, studying a skeleton showed that on a backbone of the tsar powerful bone growths because of which any movement hurt it were in the last years of life created therefore it did not go, it was transferred by servants. The forced motionless way of life aggravated problems with health even more. Also it is considered that Ivan the Terrible was sick with syphilis.

3. The tsar was afraid of death therefore at his environment constantly there were best foreign doctors who, of course, could not help especially the patient, but stuffed it with numerous drugs with mercury which was considered at that time as curative.

4. In March, 1584 at the tsar the new disease began, on all body ulcers opened, he as if decayed from within. From the whole country sorcerers were urgently convoked, in churches day and night prayed for health of the sovereign. Ivan the Terrible considered that jinxed him, and ordered to carry out various magical ceremonies.

5. On March 17, 1854 the tsar took hot baths after which it seemed there occurred considerable improvement. Ivan the Terrible was assured that he will not die, but already on March 18, playing beds in chess, he suddenly fainted and soon died.

6. It is still unknown, Ivan the Terrible died a natural death or it was poisoned. It is considered that Boris Godunov who became the following tsar could poison him. Researches of 1963 showed that at Ivan the Terrible's remains there is an increased content of arsenic and mercury, it can be both a consequence of poisoning, and a consequence of drug intake on the basis of these substances.
