At the solution of arithmetic and algebraic tasks sometimes it is required to square fraction. It is the simplest to make it when fraction decimal – rather ordinary calculator. However if a common fraction or mixed, then at construction of such number in a square there can be some difficulties.

Instruction
1. To square decimal fraction, take the engineering calculator, gain on it the squared fraction and press a construction key in the second degree. On the majority of calculators this button is designated as "x \by U-00B2\". On the standard Windows calculator the function of squaring looks as "x^2". For example, the square of decimal fraction 3.14 will be equal: 3.14² = 9.8596.
2. To square decimal fraction on the ordinary (accounting) calculator, increase this number by yourself. By the way, in some models of calculators the possibility of construction of number is provided in a square even in the absence of the special button. Therefore previously study the instruction to the concrete calculator. Sometimes examples of "cunning" exponentiation are given on a back cover or on a calculator box. For example, on many calculators for construction of number in a square it is enough to press the "x" and "=" buttons.
3. For squaring of the common fraction (consisting of numerator and a denominator), square separately numerator and a denominator of this fraction. That is use the following rule: (þ / h)² = h²/z² where h – fraction numerator, z – a fraction denominator. Example: (3/4)² = 3²/4² = 9/16.
4. If the squared fraction – mixed (consists of the whole part and a common fraction), then previously lead it to an ordinary look. That is apply the following formula: (c of the h / h)² = ((ts*z + h) / h)² = (ts*z + h)²/z², where c – the whole part of the mixed fraction. Example: (3 2/5)² = ((3*5+2)/5)² = (3*5+2)²/5² = 17²/5² = 289/25 = 11 14/25.
5. If it is necessary to square common (not decimal) fractions constantly, then use the Excel MS program. For this purpose enter the following formula into one of table cages: = DEGREE (A2;2) where A2 – the address of a cell into which the squared fraction will be entered. To report to the program that with the entered number it is necessary to handle as a common fraction (i.e. not to transform it to a decimal look), dial digit "0" and the sign "gap" before fraction. That is for input, for example, fractions 2/3 need to be entered: "0 2/3" (and to press Enter). At the same time in input field the decimal representation of the entered fraction will be displayed. The value and representation of fraction directly in a cage will remain in an initial look. Besides, when using mathematical functions which arguments are common fractions the result will also be presented in the form of a common fraction. Therefore the square of fraction 2/3 will be presented as 4/9.
