How to transfer an improper fraction to a proper fraction

How to transfer an improper fraction to a proper fraction

There are two forms of record of fractions - ordinary and decimal. It is accepted to call "wrong" common fractions which have a number module in numerator more module of number in a denominator. Such fractions, as a rule, are required to be given to the "mixed" record form. At the same time from fraction the whole part is allocated, and what remains, already belongs to the "correct" fractions.

Instruction

1. Allocate its whole part from an improper fraction. For this purpose it is necessary to divide numerator of fraction from the rest into a denominator. If numbers are too big and it is impossible to make it in mind (for example, 475/23), then it is possible to divide in a column. And if near at hand there is no paper, and there is a computer, then it is possible to use, for example, the tabular editor Excel or the built-in Windows calculator. If you decide to use the built-in calculator, then use the sequence of actions described in the subsequent three steps.

2. Open the main menu on the Start-up button, pass into the section "Programs", then into the section "Standard", then into the subsection "Office" and select the Calculator item in the list. These manipulations can be replaced with pressing of a combination of the keys "WIN" + "R" to the subsequent introduction of the calc team and pressing of the Enter key. In both ways you start the Windows calculator.

3. Enter numerator of fraction (475) from the keyboard or clicking the corresponding buttons of the interface of the calculator on the screen. Then press the key corresponding to operation of division is a virgule ("slash").

4. Enter a denominator of fraction (23) and click the button with an equal-sign on the screen or press the same key on the keyboard. The calculator will divide fraction numerator into a denominator and will present result in the form of a real number. You need only its whole part (20) - it will be the whole part of a resultant of the mixed fraction.

5. Find numerator of the resulting fraction which has to remain after allocation from it the whole part. For this purpose increase the calculated whole part (20) by a denominator (23) and take away result (20*23=460) from numerator of initial fraction (475). This operation can be done in mind, a column or by means of calculator (475-460=15) too.

6. Collect the calculated data in one record in the form of the mixed fraction - at first write the whole part (20), then a gap, then put a proper fraction with numerator (15) and a denominator (23). For the example used as an example the transformation of an improper fraction in correct (more precisely - in mixed) can be written down so: 475/23=20 15/23.
