Unlike animals which for activity need the energy concluded in organic compounds the plants receive food from inorganic elements. Plants independently synthesize organic compounds which use for the activity from these elements.

1. The root system of a plant represents a set of the branching backs therefore its absorbing surface is very big that allows a plant to absorb most effectively moisture from the soil. The plant for food needs not only water, but also various inorganic substances which are dissolved in soil moisture. Roots and stalks of a plant are penetrated by capillaries on which water with the substances dissolved in it comes to plant leaves.
2. Water rises up capillaries at the expense of the phenomenon called osmosis. Osmosis happens thanks to the fact that cages of a surface of a root represent a semipermeable membrane - water freely passes through it, and potassium ions which plant juice is saturated do not. Water seeks to level concentration of ions of potassium and gets into a plant when capillaries of a root are filled, water begins to arrive up a plant and as a result reaches leaves.
3. Green leaves absorb the carbon dioxide also necessary for plant food from the atmosphere. As a result in leaves carbon dioxide, water and various inorganic substances meet, and under the influence of sunshine in green chlorolayers of a leaf there is a photosynthesis process. Thanks to it plants produce pure oxygen which is emitted in the atmosphere, and synthesize the organic matter carried on capillaries in various parts of a plant where they also are used for development and growth.
4. Not all plants receive nutrients thus, for example, cacti practically do not soak up moisture from the soil, they absorb it from air. Also there are plants which do not absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, they absorb it together with moisture. There are also plants predators, they catch insects and decompose them in special digestive bags, and then eat the turned-out connections.
