The curve or Pareto's chart is a graphical representation of the law of Pareto defining dependence of distribution of resources on set of a set of the reasons. This chart is used for definition of priorities which need to be solved for permission of the arising daily problems (for example, existence of unrealized products, an equipment malfunction, etc.).
Instruction
1. There are two types of charts of Pareto – by results of activities and for the reasons. The first is used for definition of the main problem, this chart shows the undesirable results of activity connected for example with safety or with quality. The second is applied to identification of all causes of a problem and definition main of them (for example, an inefficient method of work, the bad performer – the contractor, the foreman, etc.).
2. Creation of the chart of Pareto begins with problem statement. It is necessary to define a problem which will be investigated (for example, defect of a product), to decide on data and their classification (for example, by the form defect, for the emergence reasons, in the place of emergence, etc.), to determine terms and methods of a research.
3. The leaf containing a list of the collected information is formed. The table containing the list of the found problems (for example, defects) as their importance is formed and filled. The table at the same time consists of the following columns: • Types of problems (defects, accidents, etc.), • Number of problems, • The saved-up sum of number of problems, • Percent of number of problems on each sign to total amount, • The saved-up percent.
4. The coordinate axis is under construction. A vertical axis – percent, horizontal – the interval corresponding to number of signs (problems). According to the made table, on the coordinate plane the cumulative curve is under construction, at the same time on the schedule all available information relating to the chart and to data of a research is placed. After creation of the chart, it is possible to establish the main causes of the studied problem, different types of the analysis, for example ABC analysis are for this purpose used.
