How to define dielectric permeability

How to define dielectric permeability

If to make simple experiment from the school program, then it is possible to notice that the capacity of the condenser is dependent on a form, the size and arrangement of conductors relatively each other. And also capacity depends on properties of dielectric which fills space between condenser conductors.

It is required to you

  • - condenser;
  • - ebonite plate;
  • - electrometer.

Instruction

1. Take the flat condenser. Charge it and write down indications of the electrometer which measures tension on the condenser.

2. Move into the condenser the prepared ebonite plate now. At once reduction between potential difference condenser facings will be visible. As soon as you remove a plate from ebonite, indications of the electrometer will accept former values at once. It follows from this that when replacing air by an ebonite plate between condenser facings, the capacity of the skilled condenser increased.

3. Take other dielectric instead of ebonite and do the same with it – place between condenser plates, write down indications of the electrometer. It is visible that the received result is similar to result of the previous experience. Here only change of condenser capacity will be a bit different. And so, if C0 – condenser capacity at the moment, when between condenser facings a vacuum, and With – capacity at the moment when between plates of the condenser the space is filled with any dielectric completely, then With - capacity will be more C0 - tanks in ε times more. And ε has dependence only on natural properties of dielectric.

4. Write down conclusions from experience, namely: the studied dielectric permeability is determined by a formula ε = by C/C0.
