How to distinguish natural light from polarized

How to distinguish natural light from polarized

A human eye is incapable to distinguish light polarization. The same concerns also the majority of cameras, television cameras and video cameras. Polarizing filters are intended for definition of presence at light of polarization.

Instruction

1. The polarizer intended not for transformation of light in polarized, and for definition of existence at it of polarization, is called the analyzer. The name it is conditional as on a design it does not differ from any other polarizer. To get this physical device, take any failed device with the liquid crystal indicator, it is desirable, large. The large digital watch or the calculator will approach, for example. Pull out from the battery device, disassemble it, and then pull out the indicator. If you disassembled the calculator or hours of an old design, the polarizer represents a film which to separate from the indicator very easily. In the modern device it should be unstuck accurately (do not break at the same time the indicator not to be cut). Then under warm water remove glue from a polarizer.

2. Sunglasses, but not everyone, and having polarizing glasses will be other quite good source of polarizing filters. When choosing such points in shop look through them at the shining screen of the cell phone (it has to be liquid crystal - OLED or AMOLED will not approach). If at the same time you see the color stains changing at turn of glasses concerning the screen, such points are suitable for carrying out experiments. To sort or somehow it is not required to change them for this purpose.

3. In grocery store pay attention to the devices for authentication hanging on necks of some bottles with alcoholic beverages. After acquisition of bottles the buyers quite often remove these devices and leave them on cash desks. Take one of them there, sort, and then unstick a thin polymeric film from a polarizer. Wash away warm water from the polarizing filter glue. Do not bend it as it is fragile.

4. To define whether light is polarized, look at its source through a polarizer. Twist it in own plane. If the picture at the same time changes, so light is polarized. In case the light source is so bright that it is directly dangerous to look at it, make experiment, looking through the filter at the opaque surface lit by this source.
