How to find density

To find density of any body, measure its weight on scales and also volume geometrical or in a different way. Then find the relation of weight and volume. Measure density of liquid by means of the areometer, and gas density by the densitometer.

1. Calculation of density of substance. If it is necessary to measure density of a solid body or liquid, find their weight on scales. Then measure volume. If the body or a vessel with liquid has the correct geometrical form, calculate it. In case the body has the parallelepiped form (brick), measure its length, width and height, and multiply these three sizes. If a cylinder form – measure diameter of its basis and height, then increase a square of diameter by height and 3.14, and divide result into 4. Simpler option – fill in liquid in a measured cylinder and determine its volume by a scale. To find the volume of a solid body of irregular shape, fill in water in a measured cylinder and ship in it a body, but to the level of a raising of liquid determine body volume. To find substance density, divide its weight into volume ρ=m/V. If weight is measured in kilograms, then measure volume in cubic meters if in grams, in cubic centimeters.

2. Calculation of density of liquid. Pour liquid in a vessel so that the areometer lowered in it which reminds a float did not concern a bottom. After it emerged in liquid, on a scale which is in the top part of the areometer, determine liquid density by the lower part of a meniscus of the device, adjacent to a tube. This device is convenient that with its help it is very convenient to define concentration of the dissolved substance. For this purpose it is necessary just to change its scale.

3. Calculation of density of gas. For determination of density of gas use the vibration densitometer. Fill with gas its sensor and put the device in action. On its screen you will see gas density. This device will provide the highest accuracy of measurement, and it will not consider dust, moisture, oil fog and other impurity. By means of settings the vibration densitometer can be used for definition of concentration of gases in air.
