How to transfer pascals to kilopascals

How to transfer pascals to kilopascals

Pascals (Pa, Ra) are the main system unit of measure of pressure (SI). But multiple unit – kilopascal is much more often used (kPa, kPa). The fact is that one pascal is the pressure, very small to human measures. Such pressure will render hundred grams of the liquid which is evenly distributed on a surface of a coffee table. If to compare one pascal to atmospheric pressure, then it will be only one its hundred-thousandth part.

It is required to you

  • - calculator;
  • - pencil;
  • - paper.

Instruction

1. To transfer pressure set in pascals to kilopascals, increase the number of pascals by 0.001 (or divide for 1000). In the form of a formula this rule can be written down as follows: Kkp = Rc * 0.001ilikkp = Rc / 1000, where: Kkp – the number of kilopascals, Rc – the number of pascals.

2. Example: normal atmospheric pressure is considered equal 760 mm Hg., or 101325 pascals. Question: to how many kilopascals does normal atmospheric pressure equal? Decision: divide the number of pascals into one thousand: 101325 / 1000 = 101.325 (kPa). Answer: normal atmospheric pressure equals to 101 kilopascal.

3. To divide the number of pascals into one thousand, just move a decimal point on three figures to the left (as in the example given above): 101325-> 101.325.

4. If pressure is less than 100 Pas, then for the translation it in kilopascals attribute to number the lacking non-significant zero at the left. Example: how many kilopascals will pressure in one pascal be? Decision: 1 Pas = 0001 Pas = 0.001 kPa. Answer: 0.001 kPa.

5. At the solution of physical tasks consider that pressure can be set also in other units of measure of pressure. Especially often at measurement of pressure such unit as N/m² meets (newton on square meter). Actually, this unit is equivalent to pascal as it is its definition.

6. Formally, to pascal (to N/m²) also energy density unit is equivalent to pressure unit (J/m³). However from the physical point of view these units describe various physical properties. Therefore do not write down pressure as J/m³.

7. If the set of other physical quantities appears in statements of the problem, then you make a transfer of pascals to kilopascals at the end of the solution of a task. The fact is that pascals are a system unit and if other parameters are specified in SI units of measure, then and the answer will turn out in pascals (of course if pressure was defined).
