There is a great number of unusual mammals who are capable to strike the person with the appearance. Manatees – animals who live in the water environment are distinguished from unusual water mammals and something bear a faint resemblance walruses.
Manatees call water mammals who treat family of manatees and group of sirens.
Only three species of manatees exist presently: American, Amazonian and African.
The American manatee is the most known subspecies which well studied. He lives only in the rivers, bays, lagoons and in shallow water of the Atlantic coast, North America as more deeply than 6 meters he does not go down under water.
The American manatees can live and live in salty and fresh water. They eat plants which are in shallow water. In day can eat up to 40 kilograms of food. Their weight on average reaches 400 – 500 kilograms, and length approximately reaches 3 meters. These features of the sizes of animals belong to all three types. Though the huge sizes of a manatee look awful, these animals harmless, they can easily be tamed to hands.
The American manatees live in solitude. Very seldom they can be seen groups, only during the marriage period when several males try to look after a female.
The Amazonian manatees differ from the others in the fact that can live only in freshwater water. These animal species meet in Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Ecuador. Sometimes these animals can be seen in the mouth of Amazon, but to the Atlantic Ocean the Amazonian manatee does not swim away.
The African manatees are called so thanks to the main habitat. They can meet both in the rivers and small bays, and in lakes. The African look differs from the American manatee only in skin color. The African representatives have this black-gray color.
On life the manatees except the person have no ill-wishers. Hunt them because of meat and a skin, and they perish because of various waste and a part of networks which eat. As a result intestines get littered, and the manatee slowly dies.
