What times exist in French

In French there are about 20 times. By the established tradition the grammatist mark out the following categories of a verb: time, inclination, pledge, person and number. In a form the French verbs are simple and difficult. Simple forms transfer temporary values, but do not date an event. Simple forms are formed by termination change. Auxiliary verbs of avoir and être participate in formation of irregular shapes.

Instruction

1. Let's consider the aspectual-temporal system of French on the example of parler group verb I. This group is the most numerous, about 4000 verbs. In the present – présent – the verb is conjugated simply: je parle, tu parles, il/elle parle, nous parlons, vous parlez, ILS/ells parlent. Learn the terminations and speak!

2. To tell someone, about something in past tense, use times of imparfait, passé composé and plus-que-parfait.

3. Imparfait is time unfinished and simple by training. In this time the verb answers the question "what did?". In French it sounds so: je parlais, tu parlais, il/elle parlait, nous parlion, vous parliez, ILS/elles parlaient. You need to learn the terminations.

4. Passé composé is the past tense finished, answering the question "what made?". Verbs I of group are conjugated with the verb avoir. Correctly to speak, you need to learn conjugation of this auxiliary verb and to add to it a participle of past tense of a conjugated verb. After that it is quietly conjugated: j'ai parlé, tu as parlé, il/elle a parlé, nous avons parlé, vous avez parlé, ILS/ells ont parlé.

5. Time of plus-que-parfait serves the purpose of concord of tenses in a compound sentence when one action took place before another. For example, "When I spoke with Mischa, you called me". To say the same in French, use an auxiliary verb in past simple tense – imparfait and a participle of past tense of a conjugated verb. It will turn out – Quand j'avais parlé avec Misha, vous m'appelaient. However we will conjugate all chain for full understanding: j'avais parlé, tu avais parlé, il/ell avait parlé, nous avions parlé, vous aviez parlé, ILS/ells avaient parlé.

6. Future time – futur simple – in French has the simple form. Simplicity is also that we add the termination directly to an initial form of a verb – to an infinitive. We learn the terminations and we say: je parlerai, tu parleras, il/elle parlera, nous parlerons, vous parlerez, ILA/elles parleront.
