Why leaves green

Why leaves green

Flora is various and beautiful. When we think or we speak about the nature, the abundance of a juicy green grass and trees radiating with oxygen covered with green foliage occurs at once. And why leaves green?

Instruction

1. A green leaf – small factory of the oxygen so necessary for breath to the person and animals inhabiting Earth. Green color of leaves and a grass is habitual to an eye and casts pleasant thoughts of freshness and health. And this is true, green leaves – live. And, as in all living organisms, in them there are chemical processes important for activity. These processes are necessary for growth of a plant, its food and breath.

2. What chemical process happens in a leaf, promoting its coloring in green color? This process is called "photosynthesis" and is carried out in two stages. The first stage – light absorption, the second stage – use of light in chemical reaction (interaction of carbonic acid and water).

3. Absorption of light happens by means of adhesive, a pigment under the name "chlorophyll". Light possesses a wide color range, however the chlorophyll absorbs not any quanta of light, and only having a certain length of a light wave because photosynthesis speed depends on it.

4. Most quicker this process happens in blue-violet and red parts of a range, so these colors are absorbed by a chlorophyll. Green color of a range gives to process the most minimum speed, and, therefore, is not absorbed, and is reflected from a leaf.

5. An eye of the person is capable to distinguish colors only in the conditions of sufficient lighting therefore he sees the reflected green color of a range which is an indicator that in a plant there is a photosynthesis.

6. At a leaf there are also other pigments, but action their too weak and is muffled by influence of a chlorophyll. When light becomes less, for example, in the fall, the chlorophyll disappears, and their role becomes leading, and leaves get other coloring - yellow or red.

7. At the second stage of photosynthesis there is a chemical reaction of compound of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (exhaled by people and animals) and waters from a root system. This reaction leads to formation of glucose and other nutrients, and release of oxygen. Substances are useful both to the plant, and to the people and animals eating it.

8. The oxygen role on the planet is huge: it is necessary for breath and ensuring all vital processes in organisms of people and animals and also for other chemical processes, for example, of burning at which carbonic acid is emitted too. Therefore plants are called "planet lungs".
