The word ""technology"" in translation from Greek means ""skill"". By this term it is accepted to designate set of methods allowing to receive a necessary product from the set materials. The technology describes ways of impact on material, tools which need to be used, skills which the master has to own. It allows to impart knowledge, skills from generation to generation. Without technology the development of craft, the separate industry and even production in general is impossible.
Imagine that you were going to sew a dress or, say, to varnish a floor. If you for the first time decided to be engaged in it, then first of all will try to find information what materials and what tools will allow you to achieve desirable result. You will find the fashion magazine where there is a pattern of a dress necessary to you, will read the instruction how to use varnish. Then you will try to find the description of the sequence of actions. It is also technology.
Try to imagine that from the world surrounding you all instructions suddenly disappeared. You, of course, eventually will sew a dress necessary for you. But it will be, most likely, at all not such as you want. Also you on its production will spend much more time because you should think out each step. The same will be also in attempt to make any other subject.
For the first time the term ""technology"" was included into the use at the end of the 18th century, and it designated craft. His German scientist Johann Beckman for designation of craft and its components entered. However technologies existed earlier, just nobody so called them. Each master just imparted to the pupils knowledge, skills necessary for them. As a rule, craft subtleties were not fixed anywhere and not only because there were few books or people in the majority were illiterate. Just each workshop sought to keep the secrets. Unexpected death of the master who was not in time to prepare the successor could lead to disappearance of the whole industry. Some of the crafts lost in the past did not manage to be restored. In modern international terminology the word ""technology"" has generally two values. It and the methods necessary for production of a certain product, or set of mechanisms, constructions, organizational receptions for hi-tech production. The whole branches of science deal with this problem, also call them technological. Studying technology of any given production occupies the main part of time of training of specialists for this industry. The technology allows to make also any production by the safest as for those who work at it, and for other inhabitants of this area. At exact observance of production requirements the harmful effects on the environment and human health decrease to a minimum. As a rule, all industrial accidents are caused by failure in any given part of a technological chain. Insufficient heat treatment of products when cooking can cause mass poisoning, and the wrong ways of action at control of the nuclear reactor or chemical production - technogenic catastrophe. In the last decades, not only material objects, but also information became an object for use of technologies. The basis of any computer program is created by means of the certain algorithm developed by predecessors. If there is absolutely new software product which does not have analogs, then along with its creation also the technology is developed. Such mode of work allows to develop the industry further. The programmer, as well as the medieval handicraftsman, in most cases takes the basis developed to him, uses methods known to him and at the same time something will improve. Any technology has the certain cycle of development. Just developed and having certain prospects belong to the latest even if yet not approved. Advanced technology already proved. Then it becomes modern, the most widespread in this industry. Further the technology passes into the category not new and even outdated. For the different industries these cycles are various. Besides, even absolutely outdated technology can revive if in it need appears.
