What happens to a brain during meditation?

comes to your mind when you hear the word meditation? Tranquility, zen, tranquility? Meditation improves concentration, cleans reason, learns to live consciously and calms. But how it manages to influence a brain so?

About it we will be told by Rebecca Gledding – the practicing psychiatrist, the doctor of medical sciences in Los Angeles.

Perhaps, you are skeptical about meditation and do not believe in its advantage, but the last researches show that daily occupations meditation influence the relations with people and reaction to the world around.

Parts of a brain which meditation influences:

  1. Side prefrontal cortex. It is the Estimated center of a brain. This part of a brain helps you to see things more logically and rationally. Side prefrontal cortex automatically sets behavior and habits and does not allow to take events very much to heart.
  2. Medial prefrontal cortex. It is the Center of yours I. This zone addresses you, your experience and thoughts. Medial prefrontal cortex works when you dream, think of yourself, communicate with people, try to understand them and sympathize with them.

Medial prefrontal cortex consists from:

  • ventromedialny prefrontal cortex. Processes information, related to you and the people similar to you. It is a source of emotional perception of things, concerns, alarm and a stress.
  • dorsomedialny prefrontal cortex. This zone processes information on people who differ from you, supports social communications and feeling of empathy.
  1. Island. This part of a brain creates our corporal feelings, is involved in experiences and empathy.
  2. Cerebellar tonsil. The center of fear – the internal alarm system of an organism.

What happens to a brain without meditation?

During usual daily activity, Center Ya (Medial prefrontal cortex) and Corporal feelings (Island) and the Center of fear (Cerebellar tonsil) are strongly excited. You constantly feel fear, concern and corporal feelings (pain, an itch, pricking). You constantly think of the past, touch former situations in the head, again and again.

It occurs because your Center Ya (Medial prefrontal cortex) is poorly connected with the Estimated center (Side prefrontal cortex). If connection was strong, the Estimated center would stop empty experiences and memoirs, groundless fear and a stress. We would look at the world more quietly and sensibly.

What happens to a brain during meditation?

If you regularly meditate, communication between Center Ya (Medial prefrontal cortex) and Corporal feelings (Island) weakens, you cease to remember continuously the past, to worry and worry. Therefore people who are fond of meditation are less disturbing.

Secondly, communication between the Estimated center (Side prefrontal cortex), Corporal feelings (Island) and the Center of fear (Cerebellar tonsil) amplifies. When you have some corporal feelings, you do not panic, and look at them rationally. For example, you felt pain, watch it and make the sensible decision that with it to do instead of panicking and drawing a picture of the funeral in the head.

Thirdly, meditation ties dorsomedialny prefrontal cortex (understanding of people, not similar to us) with Center Ya and Corporal feelings (Island). We become more susceptible to other people, also you can put yourself to the place of other person, begin to understand him more.

Why it is important to meditate?

As a result of meditation, we strengthen the Estimated center (we become more rational), we calm the Center Ya (we eradicate a hysterics, panic, concern, fear, nervousness and a stress) and we become more susceptible to other people.

That is meditation is an exercise machine for brains, capable to change quality of life to the best.

Why it is necessary to be engaged in meditation regularly?

If to stop playing sports, our muscles will stop being strong. And with meditation – if not to meditate, all above-mentioned abilities will be lost. All you need is it is to allocate 15-30 minutes a day for meditation.
