1. In spite of the fact that the wolf – a gregarious animal, the most part of time he spends out of pack. Alone this predator usually hunts various small animals, for example, on mice, hamsters, birds and even frogs. For such hunting the wolf does not need assistants, he easily independently tracks down and catches production. Besides, wolves eat practically everything. In the summer nuts, berries and forest grassy plants, for example, a lungwort enter their diet.
2. So, the wolf is quite capable to survive alone, but here the help of pack is simply necessary for him for hunting for a large animal. Wolves act together, at first they track down the victim, some of them ambush, waiting production while others exhaust it in the necessary direction. It happens and so that not one pack, but two unites, for example, when hunting for such large animal as an elk. It turns out that predators not only communicate among themselves within a certain pack, they are capable in touch between "neighbors". Hunting pushes them on it though in usual situations of the relation between packs absolutely it is impossible to call friendly.

At the same time many wolves suffer serious injuries and even perish. Despite this, wolves hunt elks, trying to survive. The fact is that there are regions where elks – almost only food for wolves in the winter. When the pack begins to pursue an elk, he is checked "for durability". If wolves make sure that the elk is healthy and young, most often they stop prosecution, beginning to look for another, that which is weaker.
4. In winter season there are weather conditions which favor to wolves, it is a crust and an ice. On such surfaces hoofed very hard quickly to move. For wolves – expanse is simple. In such time the predator hunts everything that occurs in its path. Most often the number of the victims much more surpasses appetites of a wolf, then he tries to keep food for the future. Of course, the most part is taken away by birds, small predators or other animals, but something remains also to a wolf, allowing it to survive in the cold winter.
