New year – busy season for veterinarians. Creating "the atmosphere of a holiday" and having a good time at noisy parties, owners of pets often do not think of dangers which threaten their pets – and it can turn back serious troubles.
"Rain" and tinsel
Cats show great interest to Christmas decorations, and often try to taste them. And leaders are brilliant ribbons of "rain" and bright tinsel here – cat's "enemy No. 1".
The jewelry eaten by an animal from a foil can injure cat's intestines, and attempts of owners to help an animal (for example, to pull out "rain" for the tip which is sticking out of a mouth or back pass) can aggravate a trauma considerably.
If the animal gorged on the metallized jewelry – it is necessary to address as soon as possible to veterinary clinic, the delay in this case can lead to peritonitis or necrosis of intestines and the death of an animal. At the timely address to the doctor the cat most often manages to be saved. But process of treatment in such cases quite long and expensive: band operation under the general anesthesia, postoperative leaving, food intravenously, injections … Therefore it is the best of all to refuse use of jewelry, dangerous to a cat's stomach, or to use them only in those places which the animal cannot independently reach.
Anyway – if after a holiday tears a cat, she refuses food and tries to hide in a corner even if body temperature is not increased – immediately see a doctor.
New Year tree
The tree decorated with brilliant toys, sparkling and which is poured – huge temptation for cats. The field for activity here huge: the fir-tree can be dumped on a floor, balls – to pull down from a branch, to take for a drive on the house and to break. At such address with a New Year tree the cat risks to be injured or cut, without speaking about a disorder in the house. One more danger – plastic needles of artificial Christmas trees which cats sometimes too try to gnaw and which can also cause impassability of intestines.
Therefore if in the house there is a cat, it is better to prefer a natural fir-tree, to pay special attention to fastening durability (and some owners of curious animals even fix fir-trees not to a floor, and to a ceiling) and not to hang up fragile glass toys on the lower branches. It is better to use plastic jewelry which looks not less attractively, and at the same time do not fight.
Electric garlands
The love for a peregryzaniye of electric wires is considered property rather of rodents (for example, rabbits), but not cats. However some of them after all test insuperable draft to sharpen teeth about wires.
If your cat belongs to their number – better to use low-voltage electric garlands which will not threaten life and health of your pet. Many animals are afraid of sharp sounds, and a New Year's Eve – the most noisy night in a year. "Salutes" in the yard do not cause anything in some cats, except curiosity, and others fall into the most real hysterics.
If your animal nervously reacts to noise – best of all in advance, till holidays, to descend on consultation to the veterinarian and to ask to prescribe soothing medicine for a cat. Also take care that on New Year's Eve the animal had an access to its favourite corners of the apartment – to "minks", having hammered into which, the animal can feel safe. It is good if around midnight when noise of petards is most intensive, you have an opportunity to sit near a cat, to stroke and calm her.
Windows and doors
If you celebrate New year of the house and call guests – pay special attention to safety of your pet.
One of most frequent New Year's "zooproblems" – the animals who accidentally ran out from the house. In the heat of a festival the owners and their guests can cease to watch doors (especially if someone constantly comes in an entrance or to a balcony), and cats do not love noise, a smell of alcohol and people who behave not as usual – and can try "to escape".
The slightly opened window – one more danger to a cat. On New Year's Eve on the street there is a lot of interesting, and the curious animal can accidentally drop out on the street. And the danger is constituted here by not only injuries, but also overcooling: during a rough feast the disappearance of a pet can be noticed not at once.
Therefore if at a window grids are not established – try to limit access of a cat to the aired room and do not forget to watch the pet throughout all holiday. If the party promises to be rough – better to isolate a cat in advance, having locked it in the distant room, previously having treated kindly, having fed tasty and having left a stock of food and drink. Most likely, the animal will be revolted with such restriction of freedom, but you can be sure that nothing threatens its safety.
