It is simple to contain to the tag of the house. For comfortable life the Chilean squirrel needs the reliable shelter, the spacious open-air cage and the correct mode of feeding.

The Chilean squirrel – very interesting small animal belonging to family of eight-teeth. The animal small, roundish body does not exceed 22 cm in length. As ornament serves the tail: long, thin, topped with a coquettish brush. A muzzle at the tag slightly extended, eyes small, but very live. The small animal cannot brag of acute eyesight, but differs in magnificent hearing and sense of smell.
Wool at the tag dense, reddish-gray or sand, a paunch is a little lighter. The weight of an adult small animal – 200-300 g. At good leaving the Chilean squirrels live in bondage 8-12 years. Pets feel in the company of tribespeople better therefore experienced manufacturers recommend to buy several small animals at once. To the tag are nonaggressive, friendly, it is interesting to not only children, but also adults to watch their games.
Pets are active in the afternoon, and prefer to have a rest at night. It is important to provide for them a cozy shelter where timid small animals will be able to take cover. To the tag drink a little and defecate not so often as other domestic rodents. It significantly facilitates leaving.
To the tag needs the spacious open-air cage, in a close cage to a mobile small animal it will be uncomfortable. It is possible to let out a small animal from the open-air cage only for a short time. The pet left unguarded gnaws everything that will see: furniture, wires, footwear. The danger to the Chilean squirrel is constituted by many houseplants and pets.
What to feed the Chilean squirrel with
In the conditions of the wild nature to the tag eat bark, roots of trees, various seeds and herbs. In house conditions ready dry mixes which are on sale in pet-shops can form the basis of a diet of the pet. Tasty mix for the Chilean squirrel can be made independently. Oat flakes, various grains, dried peas will enter it. Grain mixes will be added by hay, it always has to be in a feeding trough.
Obligatory part of a diet – a fresh grass and leaves of an apple-tree, cherry, a linden. The adult Chilean squirrel in day has to eat about 50 g of greens. Fresh vegetables and fruit will become delicacy: cauliflower, carrots, radish, apples, pears. To the tag very much love sunflower seeds of a sunflower and pumpkin, but you should not give them in large numbers, otherwise the pet is threatened by obesity. Berries of a dogrose and a rowan, flowers of a camomile and a dandelion, various nuts are useful. To indulge a small animal dairy products, sweets, bread and other dishes from a table of the owner it is impossible – improper feeding can provoke diabetes.
It is necessary to feed to the tag often – 4-5 times a day, small portions. Uneaten vegetables and fruit remove in time, replacing fresh. In a drinking bowl always there has to be fresh water which is preferably filtered or bottled.
