The aquarian filter is the pump which is pumping over water through special material on which the forage remains, waste products of inhabitants of an aquarium and other pollutants linger. Periodically filter needs to be cleaned from the collected dirt.
Instruction
1. Switch-off the filter and remove it from an aquarium. At first wash out it in warm water a sponge. Disassemble the filtering device. Take out the rotor, clean off slime and dirt, a toothbrush clean a filter nozzle.
2. Filters are divided on filtration types: mechanical, chemical or biological. If the filtering material represents a sponge or synthetic threads and is used for mechanical catching of firm particles, wash out it under warm water at least once a week.
3. Regularly update materials for chemical filtration, such as peat or coal. Wash calcareous crushed stone with water to purify it from the collected silt as soon as you notice delay of a current of water via the filter.
4. Replace materials for biological filtration as seldom as possible. For one cleaning change only the third part of the filtering material as much as possible to keep useful bacteria. Carefully wash out such filters in a bucket with warm aquarian water as impurity in tap water kill all bacteria. And it is whenever possible best of all not to clean a filter-bed of the ground filter in general. If the biological filter gets littered too often, then delete firm particles by means of the additional mechanical filter in the form of a sponge or silk yarn. In a big aquarium it is necessary to install several biological filters and to wash out them in turn.
5. Pay special attention to the multisection filter which carries out at the same time biological, mechanical and chemical water purification. For example, wash out the sponge detaining firm particles every week. It is necessary to change a sack with peat which oxidizes water each 2–3 weeks. And the gravel operating as the biological filter wash out not more often than time in 2 months.
