At some domestic parrots the deformation of a beak is observed – it strongly expands and does not allow a bird to eat normally. Usually it happens because of the wrong keeping of the pet. To help it, it is necessary to consult to the experienced veterinarian. Independent trimming of a beak at a parrot without experience can only do much harm to it and even to bring into death of a bird. Study the basic rules of this laborious procedure before starting independent processing of horn outgrowths.

- - spacious cage;
- - good lighting;
- - manicure file and scissors (or special veterinary set);
- - file;
- - cotton tampon;
- - alcohol;
- - peroxide of hydrogen or veterinary powder.

1. It is not necessary to start immediately cutting of a beak at a parrot if it only began to grow abnormally. The horn outgrowth can grind off and naturally. Regularly give to the pet the fresh crude branches of different thickness, put stones on a cage bottom. Bark will help it to grind off a beak; moving on a rough surface, the bird will undermine the claws at the same time. Make sure that the cage is not too small for a parrot of this look – the narrowness interferes with the natural process of grinding of horn deposits.
2. If horn deposits already prevent a parrot to eat normally, it is necessary to remove him independently. Ask the acquaintance to take the pet as at sharp movements of a bird you risk to put her a trauma. It is necessary to do everything very quickly and at the same time accurately as the parrot will not tolerate long unfreedom. The procedure of cutting of a beak can be done only in well lit room!
3. Cut off a strong integral outgrowth (if it does not exfoliate and does not crumble) very sharply ground scissors. It is desirable to buy special veterinary tools as they are more adapted for this work. However it is possible to use also well perfected cuticle scissors. Make sure that edges are not covered with rust. Wipe them with the cotton wool moistened in medical alcohol. Your task is to cut off an unnatural part of a beak not at once, and very small parts.
4. Take a manicure nail file and accurately cut the flaking horn outgrowth. For processing of strongly started beak of a large bird it is possible to use a steel file with a small notch.
5. Do not forget that near the end of a beak (in only several millimeters!) the parrot has a blood vessel. You should not damage it at all. It is especially important if your pet differs in a dark beak – sosudik can not be illuminated.
6. Surely calm a parrot after the stressful procedure and place him in a habitual situation; give more than clean drinking water and a favourite forage. Experienced veterinarians recommend not to disturb a bird after cutting of a beak at least within a day.
