2. Study the size of the red strip located under a beak of a bird. All goldfinches regardless of a floor have such ornament, but at males width of a strip is from 8 to 10 mm that is almost twice more, than at female individuals.
3. Consider attentively red strip on a neck and plumelets over a beak, try to define whether its shade is cold or warm. Color of these feathers at a male is purer, it is almost scarlet. At females this area can have a cold crimson shade. This sign also cannot be fundamental as in many respects color of plumage depends on conditions of food and accommodation of birds.
4. Examine a breast of a goldfinch. At males the brownish specks on a breast have the expressed borders and are more contrast in relation to white plumelets of a thorax. At females this transition is less noticeable. But keep in mind that old females sometimes can be painted more brightly, than young males therefore for comparison choose birds about one age.
5. Listen to a bird. Females have more bitter voice, they kind of exchange words among themselves, but do not sing. Males can remove the melodies different in the nature of sounding and even mood.
