One of the most widespread representatives of viviparous fishes – the guppy. Now they are often supported in aquariums, however initially guppies are the "wild" freshwater small fishes of tropics who received the name in honor of the English priest and the scientist Robert John Lemcher Guppi at the end of the 19th century.

1. Experienced aquarians note that guppies have evident "sexual dimorphism", that is at them it is very easy to distinguish a male from a female. Really, "girls" and "boys" of the guppy are not similar neither in a form, nor on color, nor by the size.
2. Length of females of the guppy - from 2.8 to 7 cm. These are gray small fishes with a roundish paunch and small fins. At females of the guppy the accurate rhombic network of scales is evident at once.
3. Length of males of the guppy - from 1.5 to 4 cm. These are the graceful, thin small fishes having special body - gonopodiya (the extended anal fin). Unlike females males of the guppy – bright, multi-colored, it is frequent with long motley fins of different forms. It is possible to determine a type of the guppy by a tail. There are more than ten decorative forms and about ten types of coloring. At a combination like "constitution" and color over one hundred combinations turn out. Veerokhvosty guppies enjoy wide popularity. Veerokhvosty guppies can be cut (a tail – as an isosceles triangle) and acute-angled (corners of a tail triangle - from 30 to 50 degrees).
