At first sight, the turtle seems to some of the easiest to use pets. But in care for this creation there are subtleties which need to be known. For example, the turtle has an ability to fall into hibernation for the winter. And after the first wintering, the owner of a turtle can have a question: and how to wake her now? First of all, to worry less about safe awakening of a turtle, she needs to be entered into a condition of hibernation correctly.

1. If you support a turtle in a terrarium where she receives enough heat and light at all seasons of the year, she can be not entered into hibernation. She will perfectly winter also without it. If your alumna lives in room conditions, there is a risk that she will fall into hibernation without control and preparation, in some secluded corner. The wintering in the conditions of low humidity, at the room temperature poses health hazard of a turtle.

2. The turtle has to be ready to hibernation. It is safe only the healthy reptile which does not have parasites and chronic diseases can winter in this state. Therefore before a wintering it is better to show a turtle to the veterinarian-herpetologist. Also before hibernation the turtle needs to be fattened well - reserves of fat will be required for the period of the wintering.

3. For preparation for hibernation the turtle needs to cease to be fed (but not to give to drink), and in a week - to give it the last bathtub and to stop after that water procedures. After one more week - the turtle can be stacked on a wintering in the box covered by a thick layer of a moss or peat. This layer during the wintering has to periodically will be humidified. Smoothly reduce temperature to 6-10 °C within two weeks. You can cover also sleeping turtle from above with dry leaves or hay. Do not forget to make in an opening box cover for ventilation.

4. The term of a wintering depends on age of a turtle. It is better not to leave young turtles in hibernation longer, than for 4 weeks. Adults can spend up to 5 months in this state. Do not think that for the period of hibernation it is possible to forget about a turtle: surely control its state. If the turtle shows signs of activity, hibernation needs to be stopped.

5. To bring a turtle out of hibernation, begin to increase smoothly temperature in its shelter so that it reached room within five days. Then you can include additional heating and expiate a turtle in warm water. Approximately in a week your alumna has to begin to eat and restore activity. If it does not occur - it is necessary to address the veterinarian.
