Urolithic disease at cats: development reasons

Urolithic disease (urolitiaz, MKB) – one of the most widespread diseases at cats. Practically all animals of this look aged from 1 up to 6 years are subject to it. Most often the castrated cats and long-haired cat breeds suffer from an urolithic disease (in particular Siberian and Persian). To secure the animal against an urolitiaz, it is necessary to know the main reasons for developing of this disease.

Most often MKB arises because of violations of metabolism at animals who are followed by formation of stones in a bladder or kidneys. Stones, small on diameter, can sometimes get stuck in an urethra of an animal. Statistically, about 70% of the cats having excess weight suffer from MKB.

The main reasons for emergence of MKB at cats

Among experts in the field of veterinary science there is no consensus about the causes of MKB at cats. However today it is for certain known what factors can influence development in kidneys of insoluble connections. Is among such factors:

- a diet of a cat (milk and vegetable food is the reason of alkalization of urine, and meat, on the contrary, increases its acidity); - genetic predisposition (in this plan long-haired cat breeds are the most vulnerable); - hereditary diseases (for example, an enziopatiya which is caused by absence in an organism of a cat of the enzymes which are responsible for a metabolism); - dysfunction of a digestive tract (involves change of acid-base balance and also provokes removal of calcium from an organism); - infectious diseases; - anatomic features of the urethral channel at males; - inactive way of life; - lack of vitamins A and D.

Symptoms of an urolithic disease

Symptoms of MKB depend on arrangement of stones, their size and a form. As a rule, the disease is not shown externally until uric stones do not block a gleam of the urethral channel. If stones have keen edges, they can injure a mucous membrane of a bladder, causing concern in an animal. The main signs of MKB are pains at urination, availability of blood in urine, obstruction of an urethra at males, is speeded up urination with false desires. Bol can be both constant, and temporary in the form of kolik. Body temperature of a cat at MKB usually increases by 1 °C. Because of impossibility of depletion of a bladder there is a stagnation of urine. Kidneys of an animal lose the filtrational properties. Thereof the cat can have the general weakness, vomiting and loss of appetite. If in time not to take a measure, death of an animal because of a rupture of a bladder or intoxication of an organism will follow. Therefore if you noticed the slightest symptoms of MKB at the alumna, immediately ask for the help the veterinarian. He will make the exact diagnosis on the basis of clinical signs and laboratory analyses of urine and also will appoint a necessary course of treatment.
