Very often the salamander is connected with fire. The mention of this legendary amphibious having a tail occurs in many myths. In the Greek mythology was considered that the salamander, passing on fire, extinguishes it, and at the same time itself does not burn. Christians considered that the salamander is an envoy from hell. The salamander, in translation from Persian, matters ""fire inside"".
Habitat
Salamanders live in North America, in the west of Ukraine and Asia Minor. The amphibious animal prefers the damp mixed and deciduous woods, hilly areas, meadows and glades. An important condition of dwelling of a salamander are a humidity. In hot hours of an individual live under stones and the fallen trees. Dry weather renders harm on an organism of salamanders and can lead to death. The favourite place of Amphibia are dark crude places. Hunting of individuals happens at night or in twilight. Salamanders eat mainly the earthworms taken from the earth. Also Amphibia can hunt large insects, for example, of spiders and butterflies. Amphibious catches production a forward rush all over. Then the salamander swallows entirely the production.
Poison of a salamander
All salamanders are allocated with special toxic agent. Chemists called it salamandriny. Poison is produced by parotid glands of a paratida. It is rather viscous, on a smell something the reminding garlic or almonds. This poison very toxic. During hunting the salamander does not apply poison. It is necessary for Amphibia only for protection. At emergence of risk for life the salamander is capable to spray poison at distance more than a meter. Toxic substance, getting in inside organism of the opponent, causes the strongest violation of breath, partial paralysis, arrhythmia, spasms. For an animal poison is necessary not only for protection against predators, but also for disinfection as it possesses anti-fungal and antibacterial action. The group of neurotoxins possesses poison of a salamander.
In the foothills of the Carpathians one of the most poisonous representatives of salamanders — the Alpine black triton meets. The sizes its absolutely small - about 10 cm. Moves rather slowly. Glands of an animal excrete the secret causing a severe burn at hit on mucous an eye or a mouth. The salamander spotty is considered to conditionally poisonous Amphibia as has no opportunity to enter poison into blood. Poison is not capable to work through skin. Therefore if not to pick up an animal, then it cannot cause essential harm. Poison, having got on mucous membranes of the person, causes burning. There live salamanders about 25 years. The fiery salamander is allocated with bright black-yellow coloring. The size of a body can reach 30 centimeters together with a tail. Such bright coloring serves prevention for enemies.
