As to recognize the website by the IP address

DNS record of the server defines interrelation between its IP address and a domain name. If only the IP address is known to you, from any computer connected to the Internet it is possible to define whether the machine has with this address a DNS record and if yes, what.

Instruction

1. Enter the IP address into an address bar of the browser. If it turns out that the machine with this address is used for a website hosting, there will be a transition to this website. Consider that some providers block transition to the websites to their IP addresses.

2. If it turned out that your provider blocks transition to the websites at direct introduction of the IP addresses, pass to the website of any gateway providing data compression for viewing pages from mobile phones, for example, to Skweezer or Google Wireless Translator. Enter the IP address in the field intended for URL.

3. Use the whois utility. If you use the Linux operating system, then this utility on your machine, most likely, is installed, and for Windows it should be downloaded and installed. Enter the following command into the command line:

whois aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd, where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd - the IP address.

Information on the IP address, including data on its DNS record will be soon displayed.

4. The whois utility is unavailable to the majority of the operating systems used in mobile phones. Besides, the requests generated by it can be blocked by some providers. In this case pass to the website specified at the end of article. Enter the IP address and click Go.

5. Sometimes to the same IP address there correspond several websites. In this case after input of the IP address into the browser you will pass to one of the websites, or to the homepage of the website of provider.

6. Also the reverse situation is possible: to one domain name there correspond several IP addresses. Most often owners of the large websites resort to such reception evenly to distribute load of servers. In this case use the traceroute command (in Linux) or tracert (in Windows) with argument in the form of a domain name. At the very beginning of the displayed text you will see the list of the IP addresses assigned to a domain name. If instead of the separate traceroute program the corresponding built-in command of the command interpreter Busybox, the list of the addresses assigned to the same domain name is used it will not be possible to learn thus.
