If at the computer there are two and more OS Windows, after start of a system the user sees the menu of the choice of the operating system. By default, time of the choice is thirty seconds. Not to waste this time or not to click at each turning on of the Enter computer, it is necessary to configure loading of the operating system correctly.
Instruction
1. When loading the Windows XP operating system initial information is read out from MBR - the master boot record (master boot record). MBR contains the partition table of the hard drive and data on the boot sector. After the beginning of loading and obtaining information from the boot.ini file the user sees the starting Windows screen or the menu of the choice of the operating system. Therefore, strictly speaking, the loader is MBR. Delete the boot record usually there is no need because without it the computer will just refuse to be loaded.
2. For the choice of the operating system loaded by default and setup of time of a timeout open: "Start-up" - "Control panel" - "System" - "In addition". In the lower part of a window, in the section "Loading and Recovery", click "Parameters".
3. If at emergence of the boot menu you do not select keys OS, in a window "The operating system loaded by default" nothing change. If you select – for example, instead of the first line you select the second, and in a window of the choice of OS click with a mouse the second line. Now you will automatically load necessary operating system.
4. You can remove in general a birdie from the Display the List of Operating Systems point, then OS set by default will be loaded at once, you will not see the boot menu. But it is better not to do it as in case of failure of the main OS you will not be able to be loaded from reserve – you will have no boot menu. Change time of demonstration of the menu from 30 seconds for 3 better. Three seconds quite will be enough for you to select, if necessary, the second operating system.
5. If you after all have to delete the boot record (MBR), then it is possible to make it by formatting of a disk – for example, of the Acronis Disk Director program. The boot record is on the host drive (it will be marked in the program as "main"). One more option – installation of new OS. For example, at the Windows 7 installation the boot record of this operating system will be created. At the Linux installation the second system will add the loader of this OS, most often it is Grub, at it there will be both operating systems.
6. If you have to restore the boot record, use the setup disk. During start wait for the screen with a line "You setup welcomes", three options of further actions will be listed below. Among them there will be point: "To restore Windows XP by means of the recovery console, click R", select it, having clicked R. Enter the admin password – if you did not put it, just click Enter. Further enter the fixmbr command and confirm its execution. The boot record of Windows is restored.
