The server is a major link in the local area network. Users of all computers in network get Internet access through it, through it also management of jobs is conducted. Also the server can be used as a receptacle for a large amount of information and creation of copies of systems, in case of unforeseen circumstances. For setup of the server it is necessary to have some knowledge of network technologies.
Instruction
1. Select already ready or collect the computer which you plan to make the server. Take care of compliance of its system and technical characteristics to the exposed requirements. The computer for the server by all means should be powerful that quickly could process huge data streams which are transferred between a local area network and the Internet. Certainly, the hard drive of the computer should be capacious if you use the server as storage for movies, music and to that similar.
2. Assembling the computer for the server, also take care of that in it the network interface card with 2 connectors or 2 normal network interface cards was installed. So, the first connector will be used for connection with a wide area network, and the second – for connection to the network hub of a local area network. Also you need the UTP-5 network cable, several connectors for clamping of a cable and the device for compression. For the lack of it, as a last resort, it is possible to use a flat blade screwdriver.
3. Start the computer that you collected or bought entirely for the server. Further it is necessary to come into "Network and Sharing Center", then to open a window "Change of parameters of adapters". Click connection to the Internet with the right mouse button and select the line "Properties" from the list.
4. Select the Access tab then select item allowing other users of a local area network to use connection to the Internet from this computer. Then close a window and come into settings of the network adapter which is responsible for connection with the hub.
5. Click the Internet Protocol of TCP/IPv4 point, then by the Properties button. Further you need to note point under the name "Use the Following IP Address" and to assign to the server the address and a subnet mask. For example, it is possible to deliver to IP 192.168.0.1, and to leave a subnet mask standard, that is 255.255.25.0. Save settings, close a window.
6. Turn on the computers entering a local area network, open properties of connection. Further you pass to settings of the internet protocol. Each computer of a local area network needs to assign the IP address. It is the best of all to number one after another. So, if the server has IP 192.168.0.1, the first computer in network will be respectively 192.168.0.2, then 192.168.0.3 and so on. The subnet mask for each PC in network will be identical – 255.255.255.0. Having dealt with network settings on each computer, it is necessary to save changes.
