Use of webcams became almost universal, but not always the owner of the camera wants to advertize its existence on the computer. There are several ways to hide the webcam, depending on whether you just want to switch off it to exclude a possibility of tracking, or you want to make an impression at strangers that the camera in the computer is absent.

Instruction
1. For simple switching off of the webcam open the program of the camera mounted on the computer. In settings select "Switch off". The camera will stop working, and tracking you by means of the computer will be impossible.
2. Switch-off the USB video device in settings of parameters of the computer. For this purpose open "Control panel", then "The equipment and a sound". In the Device manager expand the section "Processing Devices of Images". In the opened subsection there will be a name of your webcam. Right-click on it and in the dropped-out menu select "Disconnect".
3. Key Fn (usually is located near the Ctrl key in the left part of the keyboard) and, holding, in the top number of the keyboard key with the icon of the webcam if it is. The camera will be turned off.
4. Disconnect the figurative webcam from the computer or stick built-in with an opaque adhesive tape or an insulating tape. These are the primitive ways which nevertheless are quite working.
5. Hide a webcam icon in the computer. For this purpose right-click on an icon and in "Properties" select "Hidden". Confirm, having clicked "OK". If by default it is worth "Not showing the hidden folders and files", then the icon will disappear.
6. If settings the computer are that that the hidden folders and files are shown, then select "Properties of folders", go to the Overview tab and put the end near "Not show the hidden files and folders", click "Apply" and then "OK" (in Windows 7: "Control panel" → "Design" → "Parameters of folders" → "Demonstration of the hidden files and folders"). The icon will be hidden.
7. If you want to trace someone, having left the camera to work and having selected record, but having removed its icon from the My Computer folder, erase the section from the register HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerMyComputerNameSpaceDelegateFolders{E211B736-43FD-11D1-9EFB-0000F8757FCD}. The register is caused by the Win+R keyboard shortcut.
8. In the field enter "regedit" without quotes. Follow under the root sections stated above. When you find the necessary section (DelegateFolders), open it, having double clicked a mouse. Right-click on the specified subsection, in the dropped-out menu select "Delete". Thus the camera will write all actions of those who get to the field of its overview, but at the same time it cannot be found, it will turn kind of into the hidden writer device.
9. Use special programs for webcams which are able to hide the presence on the computer of observable. Install the program, then start and follow instructions on the screen.
