Possibilities of ADSL modems are quite often used not completely. Users connect them to the computer through USB port, and the realization of the PPPoE protocol is enabled by the program started directly on the computer. Meanwhile, many such modems are supplied with function of the router. In fact, it is the full-fledged server allowing to connect to network at once four computers and to manage from installation on them any additional software.
Instruction
1. Make sure that function of the router really is available for the modem. Disconnect the modem and the computer connected to it from network.
2. Remove an USB cable by which the modem was earlier connected to the computer. If in it there was no network interface card, install it. The same way upgrade (in a silent state) and other machines which you want to attach to the modem.
3. Get or make necessary quantity of Ethernet-cables of the required length. They should be pressed out according to the direct scheme (not crossover). Connect ports of the modem these cables to network interface cards of computers.
4. Turn on the modem and computers. Those from them which work running the Windows operating system can demand installation of drivers of network interface cards. In Linux of the card will earn automatically. Delete the software for implementation of the PPPoE protocol - now this work will be undertaken by the small server.
5. On all machines include the mode of automatic receiving the network address under the DHCP protocol. As to make it, depends on OS. On one of computers start any browser and pass to address 192.168.1.1.
6. Enter the login admin and the same password. There will be a transition to the page of settings of the router. Right there change the password of access to the web interface to another, difficult. Find the subscriber contract - in it there will be others the login and the password intended for gaining access to the Internet. Find in the web interface of the field for their input and enter. Save settings. Then find on the page of settings the button for reset of the router (do not confuse it with the button of reset located on the device - it resets settings for set by default).
7. Wait about a minute. Make sure that now from any of computers of a home network it became possible to get Internet access.
