How to hold a glass

Glasses from which drink various wines are intended in order that it is correct to disclose aroma and taste of any given drink. The wrong manner to hold a glass when tasting is capable to distort quality of wine and to turn vintage champagne into usual white sparkling wine, and the matured cognac – in ordinary. It is correct to hold a glass absolutely simply, for this purpose there are developed rules long ago.

Instruction

1. Wine glasses should be held by a leg. It not only is beautiful, but also allows to keep temperature at which wine was served.

2. Depending on the volume of a glass and length of a leg, it is held with three, four or five fingers. It is impossible to use for this purpose only two fingers – index and big, a glass with wine – not that can cause fastidiousness. It isn't necessary to bulge little fingers at the same time too – it will look, at least, too pretentiously. It is allowed to use for this purpose three fingers – average, index and big.

3. Wine glasses, regardless, white or red wine in them is poured, it isn't necessary to hold for a bowl – first, on it there are ugly traces from fingers, and secondly, wine can heat up from it and its taste will change.

4. The glass with champagne is allowed to be held for a support or for steadier lower part of a leg. As well as for other wines, contact of fingers of a hand with a bowl or its lower part is excluded not to heat at all noble drink which discloses the best properties and "plays" only chilled.

5. Quite another matter – the cognac glass having the traditional round snifter form which is made narrower above. It is held in a palm, having passed a short leg between fingers. The glass at the same time follows slightly allowing to rotate it to flow down on the bowl walls warmed with a palm, "breathe" oxygen, disclosing completely fragrant aroma of this drink. Recently cognac began to be drunk also from glasses in the form of a tulip, holding them by a leg.
