How to choose qualitative seeds of tomatoes

The right choice of seeds of tomatoes is one of these vegetables making success in cultivation. In spite of the fact that today producers offer set of various grades of tomatoes, many summer residents and gardeners do not know what grades should be preferred and how not to be mistaken upon purchase of seeds.

Instruction

1. Choosing seeds of tomatoes, pay special attention to studying packing. On it information on the producer and effective life of seeds has to be specified. Buying overdue seeds, you risk to receive low viability and minimum possible harvest.

2. Pay attention to marking. Grades which are noted by F1 badge are resistant to various diseases, but at the same time they treat hybrids.

3. Besides data on the producer and effective life, on packing with seeds their quantity, the lot number and GOST defining quality of sowing material has to be specified.

4. Study information on viability of seeds which can also be found on packing. You should not get packages of seeds whom the viability is specified by 100%. The fact is that digits of 80-90% are considered as model indicator of viability. It is almost impossible to reach 100% of viability, even under ideal conditions of cultivation.

5. Make sure that the chosen grade of tomatoes is suitable for your climatic zone. If you live in regions with temperate or frigid climate, you should not buy seeds of the tomatoes differing in teplolyubivost and intended for the southern regions even if you are going to grow up them in the greenhouse.

6. Pay attention to height of plants which is also specified on packing. For cultivation in the greenhouse you can choose seeds of tall plants, and here undersized tomatoes will be suitable for the open ground more.

7. For low greenhouses choose seeds of undersized, large-fruited tomatoes. For example, you can stop the choice on such grades as "Native", "Rajah" or "Paradise". These grades differ in high productivity and have large, fleshy fruits.

8. If you are going to grow up tomatoes in hotbeds and low greenhouses, choose seeds of undersized small-fruited grades. Such grades are: "Lollipop", "Fast walker", "Semi-precious stone emerald", "Raisin". All of them are ideal for preservation.

9. If you are going to stock up with seeds of tomatoes from own site, choose the largest and equal vegetables, without defects, with equal coloring and the correct form. Accurately remove the ripe tomatoes left on seeds from bush and leave to ripen indoors.

10. Indoor temperature where tomatoes will ripen, has to be +22-25 degrees. Cut the ripened vegetables and take out seeds together with alburnum. Leave seeds for fermentation. In 5 days wash out and dry seeds, having spread out them on the sheet of paper. Shift ready seeds in linen sack or paper envelope, and you store in the dry cool place.
