Developing the new seasonal dacha, it is necessary to take care of its safety. One of problems which the new owner of the country real estate – blows of lightnings can face. If nearby there are no multi-storey buildings, the lightning protector is required. It can make it even to the one who only masters construction craft.
Calculate height
The lightning protector represents mast from conductive material. The mast is driven in the earth, and is rather deep. If to build lightning protector in due form, its lower end has to be buried to water-bearing stratum. Height of lightning protector pays off as follows. Imagine that the pole driven in the earth is cone height. The top of cone coincides with the top point of pole, the corner between height and forming makes 45 °. Everything that gets in this cone, will be under protection.
Choose the place for installation of pole. Draw from this point straight lines on the ground so that all buildings have appeared in the imagined cone. The longest of these straight lines will also equal to height of elevated part of mast. To this size add hole depth to water-bearing stratum.
Section of the imagined cone represents isosceles right triangle. All calculations can be carried out on Pythagorean theorem.
Materials
Material of which you will do lightning protector has to be conductive. Most of all the normal iron pipe approaches. Part it can be painted for corrosion protection. That end that will be above, leave not painted over. Sometimes in villages it is possible to see wooden lightning protectors at which only the upper part is made of metal. It is considered that the tree under the influence of moisture begins to install electrical equipment. It is incorrect as rain water practically does not carry current. But wooden parts can be used. On wooden pole it is necessary to fill long pieces of metal wire or tin tape. It is the best of all to make it by means of the most normal nails. Still extensions – pieces of metal wire and also support will be necessary for them. Calculate quantity of extensions with such condition that at damage of one of them or even several the pole has not fallen.
The ends of metal wire have to go to water-bearing stratum.
Installation of lightning protector
The iron mast has to stand strictly vertically. It is possible to make additional metal contour below. It will improve protective properties and will make mast of steadier. Attach extensions to mast and stakes bolts.
Lightning protector without mast
It is not obligatory to put separate lightning protector if at you the house with high roof. In this case lightning protector is the highest point of roof (for example, spire). But it is necessary to make grounding, that is just to attach to edge of roof metal wire, other end going to the earth.
