How to melt plastic

How to melt plastic

At production of the most various plastic designs sometimes it is necessary to melt material to give it the required form or to connect parts among themselves. Carrying out melting of products from plastic and plastic, it is necessary to be careful as badly calculated thermal influence can lead to ignition.

It is required to you

  • - capacity for plastic melting;
  • - soldering iron or soldering station;
  • - blowpipe;
  • - industrial hair dryer;
  • - welding gun.

Instruction

1. Before starting plastic melting, test its small fragment. Not each type of plastic gives in to melting in usual conditions therefore it is desirable to find out it during experience. Take piece of material nippers or tweezers and bring it to naked flame of candle or blowpipe. Heated plastic will either melt slowly, or at once will begin to burn in the open air.

2. Having made sure that plastic can be melted, crush initial material and place it in metal capacity, for example, in can. For safety of melting of material, insert the container with the crushed plastic into other ware having the big sizes. Fill in in it water and put all design on fire or plate, having made peculiar water bath. Such way is suitable for processing of plastic with low melting temperature.

3. For melting of small pieces of plastic use the warmed soldering tip or blowpipe. If there is opportunity, use the soldering station with the built-in adjustment of heating temperature of sting. Pick up temperature, necessary for melting, proceeding from experiment. Too high temperature can lead to ignition of material or will make plastic brittle.

4. For melting of plastic with the increased durability use welding gun or the industrial hair dryer. The operating procedure is specified by welding gun in technical documentation to it. Also set includes the welding fillers allowing to weld different types of plastic and plasticity, for example, to melt off seams of the connected products.

5. When processing plastic high temperatures observe safety precautions. It is desirable to carry out all procedures in the open air to avoid poisoning with burning products. Avoid hit of fusion on open parts of body and clothes not to allow burns and damage of fabric.
